Our series, Hosting at Home, is a place for us to share the creative touches we add to our space when hosting in our own homes as well as tips from us as event planners for how to pull off a similar look or type of event at home. These events are not fancy and super pre-planned like the ones you are used to seeing us do but rather casual and impromptu. The content of these particular blog posts is meant to inspire each of you (whether inviting a few friends for a last minute Zoom get together or doing something special for those in your “quaran-team”), to pull out dishes you haven’t used in a while, and to find those random accessories that help make your table look unique. Keep it causal!

Last year, we kept our plans for New Years Eve pretty calm. We stayed home and invited a few friends over, but still made it festive enough to properly ring in the New Year. I felt like it was a good example to show for this year, as it can easily work for just your family or whoever is in your quarantine bubble. Hope this inspires you if you are looking to make this day a bit different from the rest (no judgement though, if you’re just not there). Trust me, I get it!

I kept things pretty simple with a typical New Years Eve color scheme and a few fun decorations, but made sure to use them all throughout so that all the areas of our home felt festive and fun.

The kids always love the horns best …

… and Ava was very excited to hand out hats or tiaras to each of our guests!

I set the table with horns for the adults as well and kept it classy (even though we were only eating Fresh Brothers Pizza).

We played some fun games to keep the kids busy until the main event …

… and then created this homemade “ball”oon drop to go along with our East Coast New Years Eve feed. The kids loved it!

Whether hosting a few friends or family this year on Zoom or keeping it really small and just doing something to commemorate the day with your immediate family, always strive to think outside the box (or call us and we will create you a BOX so you don’t have to think at all). Doing something different each time and changing it up will break up the routine and help to make your day feel special. Happy New Year from Side by Side Design! May 2021 bring calm, good health vibes, and an overall better year for us all!
