Last week was a heavy one for us (and everyone else too!). We found that the more we focused on reading and reflecting, the more we realized how much work needs to be done in order for change to happen. That’s the point right? We are now much more aware of the constant need to continue reading, asking difficult questions, and digging deep within ourselves to figure out how we can help and not be part of the problem because BLACK LIVES MATTER! We are white and therefore will never fully understand or have the experiences of our black friends and family members, but are committed to listening, learning, and teaching our girls to stand up for what’s right always!

Today, we are so excited to once again share our monthly inspiration with all of you! Each month, we look forward to getting the chance to sit down and really think about what’s inspiring us, make predictions for the month ahead, and reflect on the past month. As usual, we have each selected a photo that represents our overall inspiration and have paired it with two interior shots and two events that coordinate with its color scheme and overall concept. In addition, we have provided you with our designer tips to keep you on trend for the month ahead.

Tami’s inspired: Man, do I wish I could live in this photo! All I really want in life right now is to relax by a pool and watch my girls splash around. Vacation, anyone? I know this month will be a busy one with things starting to open back up and our circle opening back up a bit too, but hopefully I will find some moments to chill and enjoy the weather!

What’s my designer tip this month? Chill out! The pool is not the only place to chill … Create spaces indoors for that purpose too. Use cool colors and fabrics, greenery, and light airy cuisine to help lighten the mood. I think one thing we all have learned through all of this is that being busy is great but being home is great too!

Lauren’s inspired: This month is kind of a weird one for me. It feels very much like a grey area that I need to navigate through slowly, and I am going to do just that. Just because things are opening back up right now, doesn’t mean I am 100% ready to jump back in with both feet. My oldest daughter turns seven, and since we weren’t supposed to be in town anyway, we have decided to keep things casual this year. She inspires me by how excited she still is about our Zoom party and has even found ways to make it special. I am doing my best as well to see the bright side of things even while in the grey zone.

What’s my designer tip this month? Find the beauty in the monotony. I tend to use lots of monochromatic color schemes when I design, and I think personally that it forces you to see the beauty in other aspects and details. Try it out, and see what you think!

Here at Side by Side Design, we look forward to continuing to keep it real this month from our quarantine to yours … We have some awesome upcoming finished spaces that we can’t wait to show off, celebrations of the dads and grads in our lives, and lots of inspiration! Don’t forget to check out our next Get Inspired post on July 3rd for all new looks and inspiration!
