One of the first things Tami learned about her boyfriend, Phil, was that he is a lover of steaks. He doesn’t eat them that often, but a good rib eye is just about one of the best things you can gift this guy. Tami was definitely relieved to find out that he also likes to grill them from time to time, as cooking red meat is something Tami has never actually tried. Of course she is always more than willing to partake in the eating (as long as it is not too often)! So, when Phil decided he had to try out a recipe he found, Tami did not object. He was super excited to recreate this You Tube video of one of his favorite chefs, Gordon Ramsay. Here are the steps he took to make this delicious dinner:

Phil’s Tip – If you decide to attempt this at home, watch the video a few times before you begin. This will ensure your steaks are cooked to their maximum potential.

1. Make sure you have all of the right ingredients to season your steaks properly; sea salt and ground black pepper, full cloves of garlic, fresh thyme, and grapeseed oil (If you live in a small space like we do, don’t use olive oil. It will let off too much smoke). You will also need butter and steaks (duh). Phil used New York strip.

2. Season both sides of your steaks generously with salt and pepper.

3. Oil your pan and sear the steaks on one side.

4. Lean steaks on their sides to render the fat on the outer edge (This is specifically for the New York steak).

5. Gordon Ramsay says to cook for a minute on either side and continue flipping until the steak is cooked to your desired temperature. Cook with garlic, thyme, and butter.

6. Eat with greens to balance out the heavy flavor of the steaks, and watch the You Tube clip!

Tomorrow happens to be a special day for this steak lover. Tami and Phil will be celebrating with steaks at one of his favorite restaurants. In honor of Phil’s birthday … have a steak! We definitely recommend trying out this recipe. It was amazing. Happy Birthday Phil from Side by Side Design!
