Ava is 8! I feel like planning her birthday party this year was just a little bit different. She was very specific about her theme (Disney’s Zombies) and every detail she wanted to include. Let’s be honest … Ava really planned most of it herself, but I am glad she still let me help. As we are still coming off of a pandemic, we decided to keep it pretty simple this year. Drop off with just a few friends in our front yard, pizza, and cake. What more do you really need anyways? They all had a blast!

We picked an all pink and green color scheme to fit the theme, and Ava and I created this balloon garland ourselves!

We did a small table set up with all the supplies for the activities (Mad Libs, art pages with markers, and a microphone for a sing-a-long).

We kept the eating table simple as well. Just some pink plates, green napkins, and our signature in a BOX Mini party favors for a special touch …

… Oh, and don’t forget the fun disco lights running down the center!

What’s inside these fun Mini favors? A few Disney’s Zombies stickers and “Z bands” of course! We tied each one off with a green satin ribbon and a pink pom pom to represent the Zoms vs. Poms party theme. The “Bamm! Oh man, Oh man, Ava’s 8!” tags are reminiscent of our favorite song from the movie because it is so catchy.

Ava really wanted to have a photo booth (with props of course).

Ava and some of her closest friends … A small sweet group of girls made for such an easy party!

These cuties wanted in on the action too just like the big girls!

Happy 8th birthday Ava! I am just amazed by how resilient you have been this year. It wasn’t easy, but you always stayed positive and made the best of each situation. You are growing to be such an amazing young lady, and I am absolutely so proud to be your mom!

We are so excited to once again share our monthly inspiration with all of you! Each month, we look forward to getting the chance to sit down and really think about what’s inspiring us, make predictions for the month ahead, and reflect on the past month. As usual, we have each selected a photo that represents our overall inspiration and have paired it with two interior shots and two events that coordinate with its color scheme and overall concept. In addition, we have provided you with our designer tips to keep you on trend for the month ahead.

Tami’s inspired: I could not be more excited for it to finally be June! Why? Mama needs a break! But more importantly, our brother Noam and his wife Ashlee are getting the wedding of their dreams in Mykonos, and Phil and I are going too! Without kids!!! To say, I have been dreaming about long days spent on the beach, sipping on something fun, and spending time with my family is the understatement of the century. It could not get here fast enough! Let’s get this show on the road … Can you tell I’m excited?

What’s my designer tip this month? Don’t take travel for granted! After the year + we have all just had it could be hard to leave our bubble and to go back to things that may have been “normal” in our pre-Covid lives. As an event planner, I am seeing the world of destination weddings and other events in a whole new light. Intimate gatherings really do give those in attendance the opportunity to connect in a different way, and travel fuels the soul! What a great excuse for families and friends to have these types of experiences together.

Lauren’s inspired: I’m going too! With everything going on this year, I know my husband and I would not have picked this timing to take a trip like this. So I guess I have my brother and sister in law to thank! Although we will only be gone for a week, time to spend with family and a little R+R are much appreciated and will definitely feel like a luxury. Tami and I are both so grateful to have in laws who are able and willing to take our kids for the week. We are beyond lucky, and it is not lost on us!

What’s my designer tip this month? Create simple (but very special) details to fit your location! They say “When in Rome …” or Mykonos in this case. Wherever the destination, play off of your surroundings. Include color schemes and materials that fit your location. There are ways to get creative but still fit in, and I’m sorry, but those wood beams are just too cool not to mention!

Here at Side by Side Design, we look forward to an exciting month including all the details from our big fat Greek vacation! We are working on some great remodels right now, and waiting on photos to be able to showcase our many events from May on the blog!
