It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This spooky scene! Did anyone else find it hard to get into the Halloween spirit this year? My kids kept wanting to decorate, and I just couldn’t get myself into it! We finally decided on our Halloween plans, and it pushed me to get some decorations up. I love the simplicity of what we did, and it was a fun activity for all. Wishing everyone a safe and fun Halloween! (Written by: Lauren)

#2: This home tour! I got a chance last week to finally visit my client whose home I finished a while back, and have been slowly showing spaces on the blog. There’s still more to share, but this last snapshot I took on the way out the door was a cool one and a fun teaser for what’s ahead in our Modern with Antiques Home Tour. (Written by Lauren)

#3: This amazing shop! My client heard about this amazing shop called Twentieth on Beverly Blvd. and I can’t believe I didn’t know about it already! It literally has the most awesome pieces of furniture and the best lighting, and we both agree whoever does the purchasing is incredible! I snapped this cool shot in a piece of art they have there. You’ll have to visit and see it for yourself. I can’t wait to go back! (Written by: Lauren)

#4: This local vendor! As small business owners, one thing we truly pride ourselves in is supporting other local small businesses. In fact, we try to include as many gorgeous, high end, local products in the BOXes we create as possible. One of our partners, bodewell living, has made it really easy for us … This mama owned company is candle perfection, and local too! What more can we ask for! Order your custom in a BOX today with one of bodewell‘s stunning selections, and stay tuned to see what we are creating with this special collab partner for the holidays! (Written by: Tami)

#5: This Fall! Yes, it finally feels like Fall! Well, at least when it comes to the weather outside, but Halloween couldn’t be more different otherwise! My husband and I were seeking out some normalcy last weekend and decided to get out and see what the pumpkin patch had to offer! This year, I am missing the days of trick or treating and having big parties to plan, but both out of the box (and in a BOX) opportunities keep presenting themselves. I guess I don’t have to wait until November to be truly grateful for what I have! (Written by: Tami)

Follow us on Instagram @sidebysidedesign for more all month long as we share our deliveries and Designer Day! We plan to share our “Favorite Five” for the month of November on the 27th, and as always will be posting what’s inspiring us for the month ahead on the first Friday. See ya soon!

I just couldn’t wait to share more of this beautiful finished home after last week’s before and after shots made so many of you so happy! Your comments made me happy too! Keep ’em coming … Moving on to the master suite today. Hope you enjoy!

The master bedroom had high ceilings and a cool loft space which is part of the reason I fell in love with this home from the beginning. The architecture was interesting though and finding the right pieces to fit was a tiny bit challenging, but I think we did a great job! This bed was custom built to fit this space. I love the mirrored frame and the channeled upholstery detail we did. It’s all about the details!

The nightstands were custom made as well by Modshop. They are super sleek with their white lacquer finishing and those awesome acrylic feet. My client was originally nervous about how to mix in all of their amazing artwork they had collected for their previous home. We hand picked the location for each one and mixed it in just right (hence the name “Modern with Antiques”). I absolutely love how these two pieces added so much character to their bedroom.

We kept this room pretty simple. Don’t these white sateen draperies look ultra luxurious? We decided to install black marble on the whole fireplace wall for one more architectural detail and to house the TV and fireplace in a sleek manner (Fireplace material from Tristone and fabrication by Sistone).

This master closet turned out gorgeous! We wanted it to feel like you are walking into a beautiful boutique. We kept the design super simple with these mirrored doors and drawers to make the space feel larger and ultra glam and added the right lighting to really accentuate the space. One more piece from the client’s extensive art collection shows that they know how to have fun!

I absolutely fell in love with this dark teal shag carpet when I saw it, and knew it had to be incorporated into this house somehow. We decided to use it going up the stairs and into the loft , and I love how unexpected it is. The custom gold stair railing we designed turned out beautiful as well!

We wanted to keep the furniture up here pretty simple with just a nice desk and some gorgeous shelving to house some more of the clients awesome accessories. Sometimes less is more.

This art piece is custom and was created by Angel based on a piece our client had seen and loved. We love being able to offer this service to our clients (For more details about custom art read our previous post).

Here’s the view into the master bathroom (as seen in our previous post Modern With Antiques Master Bathroom). I absolutely love how the teal carpet works with the stone we selected in there.

More to follow from this Modern With Antiques home tour.

I feel the need to start off this post by saying go back and read these other ones (Here and Here) … You won’t believe how big this transformation truly was otherwise. Did you read them? Ok, now you understand. This house looks absolutely nothing like the way it started.

It goes without saying that this room had a full remodel renovation. We basically took it all the way down to the studs. This side of the room was always the breakfast nook, but now it looks a lot lighter, brighter, and updated. We kept the color palette mostly white and silver in this room to keep the space looking even larger than it is, but we couldn’t resist hanging this Picasso (from the couple’s collection) for some added color and character.

This table and chairs are from Italy 2000, and the table is truly a piece of art. Finding a light fixture that worked with it was a bit tricky though. However, I love the ying and yang that these two play (Light from Delightville).

This side cabinet is a great place to store dishes and serve ware the couple has been collecting for many years. We used the glass cabinetry above to store very special and artistic glassware (Cabinetry built by Jackie Bitton Fine Woodworking with a hand applied silver leaf finish by Angel).

We had fun accessorizing each area with all of the client’s gorgeous pieces.

This fabulous pantry door was made in stainless steel to match all of the high end appliances in this kitchen. We had a photo of the general idea, and I absolutely love how it turned out.

Here’s another view of the stunning cabinetry along with the beautiful marble we got from Tristone and Tile. Sistone was our fabricator. Their attention to detail is insane.

Although there are many incredibly gorgeous details in this kitchen, the true showstopper is this La Cornue stove. We opted for the stainless with brushed brass finish. Mixing metals in the right way gives a glamour that is unmatched.

I mentioned in the beginning of this post that this room was taken almost completely down to the studs while it was being renovated, but I didn’t mention that the best find while doing this was the open ceiling. It is amazing what a high ceiling can do for a smaller closed in kitchen, and that window above adds an extra bit of natural light that was much needed.

This project was a true collaboration with my clients which is my favorite way to work! I love to guide my client’s vision and bring their personality to life in their home. When I went back to take these photos, my client let me know that she has been loving living in her new home. It doesn’t get any better than that!

You’ve heard us mention that our in a BOX line is a custom gifting experience, and if you have purchased a BOX for a loved one’s birthday or another special occasion you will surely agree! Each gift is unique and tailored to fit a special theme, the taste of the recipient, and what it is that they are celebrating.

For holidays, our concept is slightly different. One of our all time favorite things to do is to bring a new fresh look to each holiday season. Therefore, each holiday, we bring you curated gift options that are on trend and perfect to gift another couple, a family, and we always throw in a boozy mini just for fun! Of course, you can also feel free to keep the BOX and its contents for yourself! We know it’s tempting …

Holiday BOXes like this Halloween in a BOX come complete with all of our favorite finds; the most beautifully designed paper goods to use throughout the season, bottles of wine (or really any alcoholic beverage), snacks, decor items and more! Looking for a way to celebrate Halloween this year? We know finding creative ways to celebrate all occasions has been a common theme of 2020. Stay in … But make it spooky!

Once your BOX is delivered, take your BOX contents and create your own scene. We love to include banners with cheeky sayings (such as this one: “Here for the Boos”) that are prepped and ready to be hung, but this black and white striped tablecloth, metallic skull, and sparkle breasted raven have lived in our home for quite some time. The mix of old and new Halloween decor is the perfect pair.

Here’s what we’ve got in “store” for Halloween:

Trick: $125 – This BOX makes for the perfect gift for another couple, family member, friend (or “creep” it for yourself). It includes tequila (cuz 2020), a bar of chocolate (cuz there won’t be any stealing of your kid’s candy this year), the most adorable plates, napkins, and a sparkly banner too!

Treat: $125 – Wanna set up something special for the kids? This is the BOX for your little monsters! Staying in won’t be easy this particular night of the year, but this might make it just a little bit easier … Create a cute table set up for your kiddos to enjoy a snack (costumes optional) with the most adorable Halloween plates and napkins, the snack itself, something fun to play with, and another sparkly banner of course!

BOO-zy mini: $60 – This is the all time perfect gift for the over 21 ghouls and gals to let them know you’re thinking about them! A bit of booze to get the party started, cheeky (yet adorable) napkins, sweets (It’s Halloween duh!), and a really fun glass for this cocktail and the next. They are staying in this year, right?

Don’t see exactly what you are looking for? Customized boxes are available as well starting at $150 (or two minis for $120). We are taking orders through October 24th. Get your Halloween in a BOX today! Contact us at or call (480) 628-8264.

I am working on a really exciting project right now, and loving every second of it! My client recently purchased a gorgeous Cape Cod home in Encino, but one thing I love most about this client is that she always wants to put her own spin on things. When this house is done, it will be a great representation of her style which is clean and transitional with a bit of mid century modern flair. Maybe even a few art deco touches. Are you intrigued yet? This project is moving pretty quickly, so before it gets too far along in the process I wanted to show our progress.

We’ve already added wall paneling to the entry space and took out the cross bars on these sliding doors to give the atrium a more open feel. We have these things to still be installed; a new pivot door, an amazing light fixture, and of course art and furniture will transform this space.

The atrium previously had brick flooring and was kind of being used as an outdoor “living room” if you will. We decided to use it as the true centerpiece of the house. We installed this gorgeous white flooring and a huge olive tree is on its way!

This is the formal living room just off the entry. In this photo you can see the moldings I mentioned above. A gorgeous new custom marble fireplace surround and those black and white awnings will be swapped out for a black metal version.

We had a photo that really inspired this stairwell. It literally will look nothing like it did to start when we are finished with it … Wall moldings, a new custom brass stair railing, and marble treads. Still need to pick a light for this space too.

The dining room is probably one of the only rooms that is left structurally untouched, but we are ready to enhance it with wallpaper that’s on its way from Phillip Jeffries and some stunning furniture we have in the works.

The kitchen counters are complete and the new sinks have been installed. We are reworking some of the cabinetry and adding in some fun details such as a cappuccino machine. Can’t wait to see it all done. Just waiting on the plumbing fixtures we ordered as well as the hardware, counter stools, and a custom hood.

My client insisted on this thicker countertop edge detail, and man am I glad she did! The honed marble … I’m still drooling over! I am so obsessed with this kitchen!

Under the dusty plastic is the most gorgeous black glass bar top. It was one of the first things to go in, and I am still dying to see it unveiled.

This photo doesn’t even begin to do that new fireplace surround justice! The leathered stone on it is insane, and our audio visual technician installed the most beautifully framed TV I’ve ever seen (I never thought I would say that about a TV!).

Here’s a peek at the new ceiling we installed in the office. It’s going to look pretty amazing once it’s painted.

The new theater, shag carpet is getting installed later this week, and we are working on finalizing some really cool lighting and furniture for this space.

This room is for my client’s daughter, but the closet wasn’t quite large enough. So we added some built in cabinetry which is going to look great when it’s all painted and the hardware installed. I am pretty excited about the bed and nightstands we have already ordered from Visionnaire  and the new light fixture for this room as well!

The master bedroom has the third fireplace we designed and will have a custom cabinet with a brass top built in to the niche next to it. We are currently working on some fun upholstered wall paneling, lighting, furniture, and an amazing Alex Turco wall panel. It’s going to look stunning!

New marble slabs from Tristone are being installed in the master bathroom. Our fabricator Sistone has an amazing attention to detail, and their workmanship is absolutely incredible!

Did I say Sistone’s workmanship is incredible? They got our design to a T.

Even the fire pit got a facelift. We resurfaced it with stone slabs and added that black glass topper. The metal surround and gate are going to be painted white, and we have some new awnings coming to finish off this area.

Did you think we would leave the pool alone? The blue tile in the pool really just didn’t work with the black and white facade of the house. We have already refinished the coping in black and the new black tile goes in next.

Anyone who saw this house about a month ago would be shocked! Our dad has been there every day overseeing this amazing renovation, and he is doing an incredible job. We have so much more to share and can’t wait to show you all the finished product … Stay tuned!
