It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This beyond gorgeous starting point! This month, we started not one but two big renovation projects. The first one is a new build which the client wants to bring her own flair to. We will be swapping out countertops, lighting, hardware, and even some of the architectural details to really make it extra special and a true showstopper. We have three weeks until her move-in date and we’ve hit the ground running! (Written by: Lauren)

#2: These in a BOX minis! For the last couple of months, we have been rolling out our line of “in a BOX” products slowly and have introduced you to our regular size BOX and our “in a BOX mini” … A few more options coming soon! This mini option allows clients to spread lots of joy by purchasing multiples of the same design and distributing amongst Zoom “party guests” or gifting to a variety of other special people. Have some amazing teachers you wanna give a little somethin’ to? We have created these Before and After School BOXes to let all of your kids’ teachers know that you know they are working hard behind the scenes to get this school year started off right. Did you know that most of your favorite bottles of alcohol now come in mini size? We can plan a mini BOX around any of your favorites. Contact us for more information at (Written by: Tami)

#3: This inspiration photo! This is the second renovation project we started this month. For this one, the timeline is totally different. We are just in the initial phase of architectural drawings, and we will probably break ground some time next summer. I love that I get to be a part of the decision making from the beginning as seeing the finished product will be that much more rewarding at the end. Can’t wait for you to see how we take their 80’s design into modern day time.  (Written by: Lauren)

#4: This vendor! It really felt great last weekend to get back into the events space! After months of barely leaving my home, I needed so badly to do a set up. Placing each detail truly is my happy place, and I had so much fun sourcing each of these pieces of lounge furniture and pillows too from Found Rental Co. They have gorgeous options … So many of them! We highly recommend! (Written by: Tami)

#5: This favorite destination! If you have been with us for a while, you know that since we were little we have been going to Palm Springs at the end of every summer. Luckily, the way we live while on this particular “vacation” is not so different from quarantine at home. We still eat our meals in and see very few people, and we are so grateful we were still able to go this year with everything going on. Also, man was it amazing to be somewhere other than home! We each took one of the nights to plan a meal for the family (and took it very seriously planning every detail from appetizers to what alcoholic beverage we would consume). Otherwise how did we fill our few days away? We spent all day in the pool, and played games after we put the kids to bed at night. What a perfect getaway! (Written by: Tami)

Events these days look so different to the ones we were accustomed to in the past, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t just as important to celebrate occasions big and small. When this group of girls reached out letting us know they wanted to celebrate their friend for her birthday we were beyond excited! Not only has it been a really long time since we planned a party (since the end of February when all our upcoming events were placed on hold), but we knew they would love the details we were excited to put together. Also, this birthday girl really deserves to be celebrated!

At first, when the world shut down, we had the exact same reaction as everyone else in our industry … Shock and fear! I mean, how can you not be scared when your livelihood depends on people gathering together and the whole globe is at home keeping a social distance? This has been a major time of reflection and re-evaluation for us as we are sure it has been for most business owners, and although we are still not sure when large events will pick back up (and don’t feel comfortable attending any right now for that matter), one thing we realized is this … Our business revolves around the home. Interior design and home events are our passion, and where are people comfortable right now? Obviously, you know the answer to that question. As long as there are reasons to celebrate, we will always be able to do what we love most because it really doesn’t matter to us if you have 2 people or 200 people at your party! We want to create a beautiful unique event for you!

That brings us back to the event at hand … When planning any celebration in a client’s home, it is their existing decor we look to first for the direction we go in planning the event decor. This cozy backyard was the perfect backdrop for the bohemian birthday party we had in mind.

Our party hostess wanted to have a small gathering of seven girls. The goal was to “get together” and celebrate this special occasion while keeping a distance. Each guest would be pampered and treated to a relaxing and fun time together (As this has been a hard time for all, and these moms truly deserve it!) We designed a set up with all this in mind where each guest had their own dedicated lounge space (6 feet apart) and really didn’t need to move around at all.

We sourced all of these gorgeous bohemian lounge cushions and pillows as well as these wicker trays from Found Rental Co. They really created the most luxurious yet eclectic looking scene.

What’s more relaxing than getting a pedicure? When was the last time we all even had one? Am I right? We hired the most amazing manicurists to come and pamper these girls feet (while keeping a distance, of course).

Pops of pink added so much femininity to this space. This pink velvet lounge chair was set up for the birthday girl to enjoy with a gorgeous bouquet of pink petals, and what’s a party without a bottle of rosè? Or a whole bucket full … Why not!?

In event planning, it is the small details that truly make us happy! As there were only seven places to set, we wanted to make sure that every detail was thought through and perfectly planned from the way each girl would find comfort while enjoying their pedicure to the pink velvet ribbon that was tied around each small sprig of garden flowers. Each spot had a tray that sat next to it that the guest could keep her goodies in or place on her lap to eat from.

I know I mentioned rosè, but did I mention that Whispering Angel makes these adorable half bottles? Perfect to not have to share! Other snacks included a pre-sealed box of sushi from Sugarfish for each guest to enjoy and for dessert? Cookies from a favorite local spot (Cookie Good)!

We couldn’t have been more excited to plan an event again, and this one was beyond perfect! Thank you ladies for including us and allowing us to set up for your special day!

We are so excited to once again share our monthly inspiration with all of you! Each month, we look forward to getting the chance to sit down and really think about what’s inspiring us, make predictions for the month ahead, and reflect on the past month. As usual, we have each selected a photo that represents our overall inspiration and have paired it with two interior shots and two events that coordinate with its color scheme and overall concept. In addition, we have provided you with our designer tips to keep you on trend for the month ahead.

Tami’s inspired: It’s that time of year again … Time for our annual trip to the desert! My family has been going since I was little, and every August I look forward to a little time away. Especially since my sisters and I started having kids and the cousins play together. It’s going to be a bit different this year (because #2020), but I couldn’t be more excited to get out of town! I am very much looking forward to next week’s getaway, pool time, meals together with my family, and a bit of a break.

What’s my designer tip this month? Stay-cation! You don’t need to go far to feel like you are “getting away”! Find yourself the perfect Airbnb for your fam and continue to be with those in your “pod” and cook meals in (in a different location). Other things you can do to make yourself feel a bit new include buying fresh florals, placing gorgeous arrangements where you look most, and taking on one organization project at a time.

Lauren’s inspired: There is so much going on this month! My oldest is “going back to school” (or whatever that means), I am just getting started on several new interior projects that I am very excited about, we are getting a few days away as Tami mentioned, and we are building a pool! Like I said, it’s busy … but anyone who knows me knows I like to be busy!

What’s my designer tip this month? It’s all in the details! One of my new projects is for a client I have worked for before (who is just as meticulous as me). We notice everything from the smallest details in a room to the undertones in color. It’s both a curse and a blessing. Although it can be annoying at times to have that kind of eye, we also appreciate the finer details in things and take notice to things others might not. Try it, it can be kinda fun!

Here at Side by Side Design, we look forward to continuing to keep it real this month from our quarantine to yours … We have some awesome upcoming finished spaces that we can’t wait to show off, new projects that are just getting started, and we are planning some fun intimate events we can’t wait to share! Don’t forget to check out our next Get Inspired post on September 4th for all new looks and inspiration! Also, check out our Instastories @sidebysidedesign to see how we are spreading joy one box at a time!

Introducing the mini version of our “in a BOX” line … in a BOX minis! Another custom gifting experience brought to you by Side by Side Design!

In our previous post, A Birthday in a BOX Celebration, we mentioned that birthdays and other events look very different right now. We are embracing this new normal and have been spreading joy all over town with our custom box deliveries. Our full size boxes (aka “in a BOX”) are meant to celebrate occasions. They are a gift to send to a friend or family member or can be used as the “party” itself as they tend to include party essentials such as sparkly banners, cake plates, and fun cocktail napkins with cheeky sayings among other things. This mini version of our regular size box was created to spread even more joy. Ava delivered each in a BOX mini to a friend invited to her Zoom party that night. She loved getting the opportunity to surprise her friends and give out gifts in her chosen theme on her birthday.

Our minis have many purposes! All orders are custom and can include specially designed cupcakes by cream + sugar or other special gift items! These blue velvet cupcakes topped with fancy sprinkles were delivered to each of Brawerman’s 2014 grads to enjoy during their Zoom alumni event! I mean, how do you celebrate without something sweet!? Custom stickers help to personalize each order too!

Really, the possibilities are endless! This option could be used as a fun favor at a bachelorette party or to invite your girls on a getaway! You can’t go wrong with mini bottles of Patrón ever, and did I mention we are suckers for a fun cocktail napkin?

Some day things will go back to “normal” and we will all host events in our homes again … Right? When you are ready, minis will be the perfect party favor for all of your guests. With our signature all white backdrop, they can accommodate any theme, will be loved by any age group, and are filled to the brim with fun surprises! In the meantime, these would be fun to hand out at a drive by birthday celebration, don’t you think?
