It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This sneak peek! So many of us are keeping busy with our own home projects right now, and I have been using this time to take those projects off the back burner and complete some things I have been meaning to for a while now. We finally got our front gate in and we have been getting such nice compliments from neighbors passing by, but I realized I hadn’t shared this accomplishment with all of you (‘Cuz isn’t each finished project in our own home considered an accomplishment?). I am looking forward to sharing the whole front yard very soon. It’s nearly done … Just a few more finishing touches to go! Stay tuned! (Written by: Lauren)

#2: This destination! We were sent this picture from the drapery installer in Vail and it made us so happy to see this room almost done. It’s been weird doing a project almost completely from afar, but these little moments of seeing progress definitely help. I can’t wait until I am able to go to Vail again to see it in person and place each item for perfect photos, but until then here’s one gorgeous view! (Written by: Lauren)

#3: This Mother’s Day! As you know, Lauren and I spent the morning of Mother’s Day delivering boxes and bringing joy to some amazing mamas, but each of our husbands made sure to make the day special for us too! Pre-Covid, we had been doing some really fun events with the caterers at Jon and Vinny’s and I am not gonna lie … I had been really missing their cuisine! Also, who isn’t looking to support their local businesses right now? What a great meal! (Written by: Tami)

#4: This vendor! We have talked about our amazing faux painter, Angel many times before, but it has been a while since we have worked with her on a mural (and now we are getting to do two). She created these to-scale drawings to show our Modern Eclectic clients some options for the jungle theme in their son’s room. The real thing will get started next week, but I thought these drawings were a fun teaser in the meantime. (Written by: Lauren)

#5: This first delivery! We always like to give our new projects trial runs before launching them full on, and it just so happened that we had the perfect opportunity to give our Birthday in a Box concept a first try. Our sister Maya was the first recipient of a custom birthday box which we curated with a special theme in mind … Why lemons? Her adorable dog  Lemon is one of the loves of her life! It was super special to see this project through from the ordering of the box itself and all items to go inside to the surprise delivery on Maya’s birthday. I would say it was a success and that we are excited to continue recreating this experience for many other celebrations to come! We have 4 deliveries this coming Sunday …. So much fun! This really is such a crazy time for business owners, and we would not be telling the truth if we said all has been as usual for Side by Side Design. In fact, we know that all our fellow event vendors have taken a hit as there are no events period at this time. For us, it has been hard … Every event we had scheduled from March 2020 into the foreseeable future have been postponed to dates unknown. Even our biggest event we have in the works has been moved to the following year. Crazy! Scary!

After about a month of speculating what might become of the events industry (and the events side of our business), Lauren and I decided to temporarily pivot! If events aren’t happening the way they normally do, we need to do something abnormal. That’s where the idea for our “in a Box” line came from. We know people aren’t gathering but that it will always be important to celebrate birthdays and other events, so we created a concept that will help families celebrate and hopefully spread lots of joy! We are beyond excited to be collaborating on this project with our girl Ashlee of cream + sugar

Last month, we started by testing out our concept on a holiday we are very passionate about … Mother’s Day! Although we originally intended to create custom boxes, we planned out our Mother’s Day in a Box line as curated options for people to choose from for their loved ones. We are very proud of how these turned out and the response we got from those who purchased!

Then we set out to accomplish what we had originally planned and launched Birthday in a Box! Each box is custom and curated with the recipient in mind …

… and comes with a beautifully designed treat (either a dozen cupcakes or a 6 inch cake) that coordinates with the contents and theme of the box.

Our first couple deliveries have been a huge success and we are already beginning to branch out to other celebrations … Babies being born, graduations, and Father’s Day orders are coming in as we speak! The possibilities are endless for this new venture of ours! We plan to roll out box options for each big holiday and can create for any occasion. Have a Bachelorette you want to celebrate? Want to challenge us with an obscure theme? Challenge accepted! We can create a box for just about anything, and I would say our moods and hopefully the moods of others have greatly improved since we shifted our focus! Side by Side is spreading joy!

By now, we are sure you have heard us talking about the newest addition to the Side by Side Design brand in collaboration with cream + sugar. “in a Box”  was created to help us all while in quarantine to properly celebrate birthdays and other celebrations. It’s easy and ordered from your home but comes completely custom and curated to fit the person it’s for!

Right now, we are doing a special promotion (starting at $150) for all the Dads and Grads in your lives! We know it’s been hard to get out and get the gifts we all need to make our loved ones feel extra special. Especially right now when our husbands are working extra hard to work from home or might even be homeschooling and taking care of the kids. We may not have seen our dads hardly at all, and don’t even get me started on the 2020 grads! They truly have our hearts! Read more to find out how you can contact us to get started on that special gift for your Dads and Grads today!

Here are two sample inspiration boards we created to show you how it all comes together:

If you have been following along for some time, you know that we have been busy working the last few months on a fun remodel project. My clients are less than a month away from their due date. They are having a baby girl in early June, and we have been busy trying to complete their house in time for her arrival. I thought it would be fun to show the progress as all of the cabinetry has gone in at this point, and we are really moving through our to do list over there! Here are a few rooms to get you excited as well!

I always like to put together an overall inspiration board when working on a home, as it keeps me on track design wise and keeps the flow moving from space to space. This home was an interesting one as it had lots of nice modern details but the previous owners added some traditional elements that I didn’t feel worked with the space. In our construction process, we have removed nearly all of those traditional elements including crown moldings, traditional wood bannisters, and marble floors. We are including design elements that fit better with the house and including a few eclectic touches for some extra flair.

Kitchen

This awesome kitchen will have a nice monochromatic backdrop to properly feature the fun design elements we are including such as a forest green island and fun backsplash detail to coordinate, state of the art appliances, and modern bronze hardware. We were limited with space, but really maximized it to give this awesome couple a great place to enjoy each and every day.

Den

We are carrying the forest green color through the black industrial doors to this den space to tie in with the kitchen and create a cozy place for many functions. We are working on the furniture pieces and other elements for this room, but I am excited about the direction it is going so far.

Powder Bathroom

This tiny powder bathroom is just off the kitchen and den. We wanted to make it a bit unexpected while still tying in with the adjacent rooms. We all unanimously loved this fun jungle wallpaper and felt it did just that! A new sink and cabinet, light fixture, and flooring, and you will hardly recognize it as the same space when it’s done.

Master Bathroom

Once again these clients challenged me to use color in an unexpected way. We found this awesome teal tile and knew it would be a fun backdrop for their new and improved master bathroom. We are using matte black fixtures and a gorgeous walnut wood cabinet to finish off this room, once again using the space to the fullest.

Thanks for taking this tour with me through this exciting construction project I have in the works. I hope you are just as excited as me to see the finished product soon … Stay tuned!

I know … I know! Mother’s Day has come and gone, but we worked so hard on this first round of boxes that I absolutely had to share the finished product!

I had way too much fun (more than I even care to share) laying out all of our orders and placing each item in its box. It was very important to us to create a bright white background for the contents of the boxes to pop against, so we filled our gorgeous custom boxes (with our logo on top) with white paper filler.

The next step was to get all of the macarons and cookies from our collaborator (cream + sugar)! For maximum freshness, these were created and added to each box only hours before their delivery. Aren’t they gorgeous!?

Here is our finished “Staycation” box! I know we are all anxiously awaiting a time when we can travel again, and our hope is that the recipients of this box enjoyed a small taste of vacation.

The “Bubbly” box turned out equally as stunning! I know for a fact some pampering was happening with these products! Hopefully while sipping bubbly! That makes me beyond happy!

Another thing I love is that our clients feel comfortable enough to ask for what they want. Custom boxes? Absolutely! This is an example of including some personal preferences … and I am not mad at it either!

Did you miss out on the fun? Don’t worry! Mother’s Day in a Box was such a hit that we are already planning for upcoming events and holidays. Have a kid or other loved one with a birthday coming up?
