When we got approached by Minted to join their Design Trade Moodboard Challenge, we knew this was right up our alley. I love creating moodboards for every project I do. It is truly one of my favorite parts of the job. I love the process, and I love how it gives me a clear vision for how the finished product will turn out. The challenge was this … To create a moodboard around the look of one of Minted’s many pieces of art from their independent artist community. Here’s what I came up with:

When I found this stunning piece of art by Lauren Packard entitled “There’s a Lot Going on Underneath”, it truly spoke to me as I am sure many of you can relate right now. Each day I have so many mixed emotions; fear, excitement, overwhelm, high highs, and low lows. There’s a lot going on underneath my exterior smile, but I am learning each day in this new way of living to find beauty and happiness in every way I can. Whether it be through cooking something special with my kids or scrolling through beautiful images to find artwork I can truly relate to.

For my moodboard, I wanted to create a space that is cozy and can easily be lived in, but still fits my design aesthetic and the high end deign of my clientele. I was so inspired by Lauren Packard’s use of color and texture in her artwork. I love the simplicity of it, yet if you look closely you can see how complex it really is. I wanted to create the same idea in my space using texture, shape, and layered color to give the same visual effect. Let us know what you think!

It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This project! There has been so much progress made on the construction of this home, and we are getting very excited about every detail and design element coming to life. This room will look very different when it’s done, and I can’t wait for you to see. (Written by: Lauren)

#2: This special playground! This awesome project is bittersweet. I am so excited that it is almost finished, but I am sad that my girls and the rest of the school won’t be able to enjoy it this school year. I look forward to checking off the last couple to-do list items that we have left so that this playground can be completely ready for a proper opening celebration, and the kids will get to thoroughly enjoy it when the time is right. (Written by: Lauren)

#3: This amazing lady! We have been very inspired by what @the_avantgartist has been cooking up over at her house, and have even tried out a couple of her signature recipes ourselves. I made these delicious short ribs for my husband Scott’s birthday and they were a special addition to our quarantine celebration. (Written by : Lauren)

#4: This vendor! We have been getting some awesome tile for a few of our clients from Imperial Tile and Stone, and we thought we would throw some love to a local business who has been great through all of this. They have been awesome to work with, and here is a sneak peek at some of the selections we have made so far for one of the projects. Support your local small businesses today! (Written by: Lauren)

#5: This concept! By now, you have probably seen us promoting “Mother’s Day in a Box” (a special curated box we have created to spread joy during this difficult time) and the giveaway we are doing too. If you haven’t, check out our IG page! We have also mentioned that “Birthday in a Box” is available as well, and we will be sharing all about that in a blog post very soon! The concept, however, for our “in a Box” line is to collaborate with cream + sugar who creates all of the treats included and curate custom boxes for each recipient that speaks to their age, a theme they might enjoy or a holiday that they are celebrating. We tailor each box to who is in their home that they may be sharing their celebration with. We are excited to deliver many of these boxes to homes in our community. Get yours today! Contact us at info@sbsdesignla.com to order or with any questions you might have. (Written by: Tami)

Last week in our Quarantine Seder post, we gave a little peek at my dining room. I’ve been wanting to share this space for a while and have had many requests to do so. I used this time at home as a chance to get a few things done around my house and finally put the finishing touches on my dining room.

We bought this dining table, which I love, a while back from HD Buttercup and had the chairs from our previous home. I went back and forth on whether to add head chairs or a bench for a very long time, but ultimately decided that this bench from Article gave the room a little bit more flexibility and kept the main focus on the artwork.

As I mentioned in this previous post, our custom artwork service is such an affordable option and each piece looks even more amazing in person. The light was another item I went back and forth on. I bet you wouldn’t believe I ended up getting this one from West Elm. I think springing for the right light bulbs does the trick.

These vases finally arrived yesterday. I have been looking for something exactly like this for the centerpiece of my table. I love all of the cool textures and how whimsy they are.

Here’s a little glimpse into my living room as well. It’s still a work in progress, but we are getting closer to completing it and hope to be able to share this space with you in the near future.

As we are all happily binge watching the latest documentary (Tiger King, what else?), my advice for April is to incorporate animal prints into your life! Don’t go crazy … Whether you believe Carole Baskin killed her husband or not, we can all agree that she went way overboard with the cat theme. Little pops of print will help you to hibernate in style. Cute coasters? Why not? A gorgeous Scalamandre throw pillow, meow! You will thank me for these links, I promise! Here is a list of ten items that I know you will love. I even included the most comfy couch for you to binge watch all your shows from. Enjoy!
