It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This first consultation project! A little over a month ago, we sent out an email describing our new consultation service we are offering, and since we have already completed the consultation portion of our first one. This particular client, wanted to update their office space that also doubles as a playroom for their son in their converted garage, and was looking for a bit of a mid-century modern design with lots of storage. This is the layout that the client has selected moving forward. Can’t wait to really get this space under way! (Written by: Lauren)

Love Boat

#2: This year’s gala! For the last two years, we have been involved in helping to plan a very special gala event. Not only is this a really nice opportunity each year for friends and colleagues to get together, but it is fundraising for a very important cause. However, we like to keep the themes light and make sure everyone just has fun! This year’s date has been set, the theme has been picked, and we don’t want anyone to miss the boat! (Written by: Tami)

#3: This inspiration! I started a new project this month with a client out in Westlake Village. Have any of you ever been to Sherwood Country Club because this house reminds me of that property! I have already put together most of the inspiration board to guide this project in the right direction, and I believe the demo is almost complete for the different areas we are remodeling. This picture is one of my favorites in the bunch. As I was looking on Pinterest to find images to show the clients of how their space will look transformed, I found this picture which very closely represents the exact idea we had when converting their staircase. I love when that happens! It makes it so much easier for the client to visualize what their finished space will look like. (Written by: Lauren)

#4: This vendor! We were so excited to work with Mr. Bartender last weekend on our Tacos and Tequila Birthday Party! Let’s be honest … With this theme there’s not much more of an important detail than the drinks (Well, tacos too of course!), and this amazing vendor was right there with us the whole way. Planning the signature cocktails, providing a shopping list for my client, and overall amazing service the night of the party. What more can you ask for!? (Written by: Tami)

#5: This master bathroom update! I have been scouring stores for the last year and a half to find the right carpet runner to go in my master bathroom. I had a photo on my inspiration board with an awesome bohemian black and white runner and knew this was the right touch to add to my bathroom to give it just the right amount of character. I didn’t believe it, but this was one of the hardest things to find as I really wanted to find something that was vintage (or at least looked vintage), and they simply do not make them in black and white. Not in the right size either! During one shopping trip to HD Buttercup, I found these small rugs that I fell in love with. I brought them home, interlaced the tassels between them, and I got the runner of my dreams! I also added a large black basket to the other side of my bathroom for another bohemian touch and a little extra storage! (Written by: Lauren)

I love this theme, I love planning parties in people’s homes, and this client was an absolute dream to work with! When all the pieces fit together so seamlessly, a day on the job really doesn’t even feel like work! Let me back it up a bit … You all know that our business revolves around the home. Making it beautiful, functional, and ready to entertain in. This client actually approached us about planning her birthday party first and is now working with Lauren to create a fabulous office space in their garage for her husband (more on that soon). What do I love so much about home events? We get to fit the design of the party into what already exists in their most sacred space. This birthday was no exception!

This home is adorable, set back from the street with lots of trees and lush greenery, with different levels in their front patio area. We created an event space that almost all took place outdoors (in the front) by using all the open areas.

These paper picado banners were purchased on Etsy and created a beautiful welcome for the party’s theme.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is S-by-S-19-684x1024.jpg

All furniture (rented from Signature Party Rentals) was kept simple, crisp white and wood, and looked as if it could live in this space permanently.

I cannot say enough about these gorgeous floral arrangements made by Mulberry Row in the perfect shades of pink!

I love this detail! One of our favorite things to do is to use natural elements found around the home in our design.

A fire pit? Why not turn it on!

A bar? Yes, please!

We knew when planning this party that having a tequila centered bar was going to be very important. Mr. Bartender came and created specialty spicy margaritas and Palomas for all the guests, and the host’s vintage bar was the perfect decor element!

Inside the house, we created an appetizer and dessert display fit for a queen!

This on theme cheese board was complete with chips, salsas, and cheeses galore! Small bamboo appetizer plates added one more casual touch.

These cookies were to die for and purchased from Cookie Good

The cake was purchased from Hansen’s

… and decorated by a duo you know and love (Tami and Lauren from Side by Side, wink). No we did not make that gorgeous cake topper! It was purchased on Etsy (from VintageBabyDoll) and was absolutely perfect!

Our favorite taco vendor not only makes the best meats but also their own tortillas on the spot!

What’s a tacos and tequila themed party without a taco cart anyway?

Such a gorgeous display of salsas and other toppings, quesadillas, and jalapeños stuffed with cheese!

I die for these adorable napkins … Taco ’bout a party!

One more fun touch! Vardo Tarot came complete with her vintage van! What a fun activity for guests to partake in!

A special birthday shout out to our very special client! I loved every second of planning this fun themed birthday party with and for you! For more information about our home event services, contact us at

In our Pining For Pinterest posts, we prepare our readers for the upcoming season with interior shots alongside decor and event details in a fresh, new color story and overall look. We don’t know about you, but we are so excited for the beginning of Fall (and it is truly just around the corner) … Spooky scenery, time spent with family, and lots of pie here we come! Please enjoy as we take you through our inspiration for two totally different Fall events in our own distinct styles.

Tami’s Pins: What’s “pin”spiring me this season? The softer side of Fall! This chica shares her special day with the spookiest one of the year, but that doesn’t mean she can’t let her sweet side shine. She invites her friends over for a birthday lunch outdoors with pumpkins galore, gorgeous flowers, and lots of fun food. Why can’t she treat herself to a little birthday fun?

Her home is just her style … sweet and chic!

This birthday set up is EVERYTHING and more!

Shades of peach and pink are perfect for this season.

Gotta take advantage of this warm weather as long as possible!

Can’t have a birthday without a signature cocktail …

… beef carpaccio …

… and a beautiful birthday cake!

Lauren’s Pins: What’s “pin” spiring me this season? Pumpkin spice! Ok, so we have all heard of Friendsgiving, right? It’s getting a bit played out! That’s why we call this inspo board something even better … Girl’s Giving! This one’s just for your closest girlfriends. They are sweet, they are spicy, they are your girls through thick and thin!

No need for purses or cute shoes … Make yourself at home!

You know your girls will appreciate this gorgeous display you (and your event planner) dreamed up.

Who’s Will? Dan? Swap these out for cute name tags for all of your friends.

A little pumpkin spice?

Try a cocktail!

Cozy comfort foods are perfect this time of year …

… and pie is all the rage!

This Fall is our busiest yet, and we are so excited to continue bringing the events “Side” of our business to the next level. We look forward to all that is coming up this season and hopefully using some of this inspiration in our own planning. We would love to work with you in creating the right look this Fall by tying in the inspiration of your event with the essence of your home decor. Contact us at for more information.

I am excited to share with you guys some more inspiration today for another space that is in the works in this Modern Elegance home. At this point, we have ordered the majority of the large pieces of furniture, and my client has had some fun purchasing accessories to fill the spaces once they arrive. There is still lots to do including selecting wall finishes, draperies, lighting fixtures, and other finishing touches, but I generally think if you have the time and patience to complete rooms in stages then you will have the chance to see how it all comes together along the way. Today, I am going to share with you my client’s great room … and that is just what it is! A great, big, beautiful open space. Enjoy!

I have said it before, but this project is truly the most beautiful blank canvas and this room is no exception. The most perfect shade of taupe walls, stunning modern features such as this architectural fireplace wall, and floor to ceiling windows with doors that completely open to the most amazing exterior spaces … Don’t even get me started on these incredible stone floors that I heard were imported from Italy. The draperies in the second photo were just temporary, as we have selected a gorgeous sheer stripe that coordinates with the walls and are sure to look stunning.

In Process

First things first, we ordered not one but two of the most elegant sectionals from Visionnaire to fill up this room (complete with coordinating ottomans and coffee tables). Before ordering, we laid out the dimensions on the floor with blue tape so that we could clearly see the scale and how they would fit in the space. These pieces are on their way here now from Italy, and I can’t wait to see how gorgeous they are in person!

Great Room Inspiration

This room is still a work in progress, as we kind of want to see the sofas in the space before we decide exactly what we put with them, but this is the inspiration board I have been working with. You can see the amazing sofas we ordered and the drapery fabric. For this space, we are working with a very monochromatic color scheme as I want this room to feel very calm, comfortable, and inviting, but we are playing with some fun elements like these incredible wall finishes / wall treatments and I would love to bring in something that is just a little bit edgy as well like this cool light fixture from Mass Furniture. What do you think?

The pieces that have already been ordered are scheduled to arrive sometime in the next month, and I am getting more and more excited each day! I love watching a project evolve, and seeing the inspiration brought to life is so rewarding. Stay tuned for more from this Modern Elegance home feature.

My oldest daughter, Ava is going back to school next week, and although we have been very busy working here at Side by Side Design, I am shifting my focus for a minute to get her all ready for first grade. The designer in me never really turns off, however, and one of my favorite things to do growing up was to prep my supplies for the first day of school. There’s just something about brand new school supplies all packaged up that is so much fun … Am I right? I love when everything coordinates and picking a new color scheme each year. Just thought I’d share Ava’s go to items for first grade (and where to get them in case you need some inspiration this time of year).
