My oldest daughter, Ava is going back to school next week, and although we have been very busy working here at Side by Side Design, I am shifting my focus for a minute to get her all ready for first grade. The designer in me never really turns off, however, and one of my favorite things to do growing up was to prep my supplies for the first day of school. There’s just something about brand new school supplies all packaged up that is so much fun … Am I right? I love when everything coordinates and picking a new color scheme each year. Just thought I’d share Ava’s go to items for first grade (and where to get them in case you need some inspiration this time of year).

Ok, you guys! Here it is! Our very first post from the finished home tour of our client’s Modern With Antiques Home! This is the first completed room, and I have been so excited to share it with you. I think it turned out stunning! I always tell my clients that a powder bathroom should be like a jewel box, or you have the opportunity to do something really fun in a small space that you wouldn’t necessarily do somewhere else which is just what my client did! I don’t think you can get more jewel box than this! Let’s just dive right in …

I wanted every piece of the design to work together but with some key focal elements. I decided to wrap all of the walls and the countertop in this gorgeous over the top Arabescato Corchia marble from Tristone & Tile to set the back drop and the main connecting element. I worked with Sistone on the fabrication and their quality and craftsmanship was impeccable. I mean, just look at that gorgeous book-match (You have to look super closely to even see where the seams are.). They even applied marble to our floating countertop and did a great job of matching the pattern to that as well. The wood flooring from DW Interiors is the same as the rest of the house, and I love how it warms up the space.

This bathroom may seem simple but in reality it was no easy feat, and the details were not by accident. I worked with the Sistone team to superimpose the marble slabs my client purchased into drawings of the bathroom to determine where each and every seam would go and to design all of the small details including the marble frame around that gorgeous beveled mirror and the height of the countertop so that it would perfectly hide all of the plumbing underneath.

Now for the fun part … We ordered these gorgeous crystal sconces from Crystal City which was made to fit our design and this awesome and unique sink with wall mounted faucet from Nina’s Kitchen and Bath.

My client and I both agreed that we did not want to take away from the beauty of this incredible bathroom with too many accessories and we felt these two Lalique pieces were just the right thing.

We ordered this wall mounted Duravit toilet from BJ Discount, and had the wall-mounted flushplate plated matte gold to match the rest of the fixtures in the room. It turned out perfect!

That’s it for today’s edition of our Modern With Antiques Home Tour. I am sure you are just excited as I am to see more of it completed. The details are still being put in place but rooms are finishing up one by one, and I will be sure to share them as we go. Until next time, I will leave you with this gorgeous door! LOL!

We are so excited to once again share our monthly inspiration with all of you! Each month, we look forward to getting the chance to sit down and really think about what’s inspiring us, make predictions for the month ahead, and reflect on the past month. As usual, we have each selected a photo that represents our overall inspiration and have paired it with two interior shots and two events that coordinate with its color scheme and overall concept. In addition, we have provided you with our designer tips to keep you on trend for the month ahead.

Tami’s inspired: Man, I need a vacation! Between being pregnant (Spoiler alert … If you didn’t read Wednesday’s post), work, and the day to day with my one year old, I am a bit exhausted! Our annual family trip to Palm Springs cannot come fast enough! I really just need a few days away to be poolside and just chill! Can’t wait to see my cute girl playing with her cousins in her new floppy hat and sunnies (If she’ll keep them on her face.) in just a few short weeks. Palm Springs here we come!

What’s my designer tip this month? Chill out! If on vacation, bring a little of home with you … A soft throw for your borrowed bed or a favorite beach towel! Staying somewhere where you can do dinners in? It would be so much fun to set up a special space to eat your meal with fresh local flowers, a cute striped runner, and candles galore! I added this cookie pic because I couldn’t resist … and I may know of someone who can make them custom if you’re interested. Hit me up!

Lauren’s inspired: A blank canvas! Crisp, white paint! Sometimes we all need a fresh start. A clean piece of paper to jot down new ideas. I am out doing my first official consultation today, will be starting a brand new project next week, and I am so excited for that refreshing feeling I get when I start something new.

What’s my designer tip this month? Don’t let anyone tell you that white is not a color! My kids don’t like it when I tell them that white is my favorite color, so to them it is “purple”, but to me white is the color that makes me most happy! It’s crisp, it’s clean, and it makes any room look brighter and lighter. Try it out in your home, and you’ll see!

Here at Side by Side Design, we look forward to an exciting month including all the details from a fun fortieth birthday celebration, finished spaces from our Modern With Antiques client’s home … FINALLY!, a bit of much needed vacay, and more! Don’t forget to check out our next Get Inspired post on September 6th for all new looks and inspiration!
