Is Father’s Day really this weekend? I guess it’s time to be thinking about ways to show those men in our lives how much we really care! As part of my preparation process, I pulled up pictures from last year’s celebration and was reminded of how nice it was to celebrate my husband’s first Father’s Day. While I was at it, I prepared a little post full of tips for all of you (especially if you have a new baby and are coming up with ideas for a first Father’s Day). Enjoy!

The first Father’s Day is a really important milestone in the life of a new dad, but it’s more important that he feels special every day! After our daughter was born, we treated ourselves to professional photos of ourselves with our newborn (taken by Erica Leigh Photography). My Father’s Day gift to Phil was selecting a few extra special shots and framing them just right so he could take a look at work whenever he was missing her (and me).

My husband loves sweets almost as much as he loves being a “Dada”. If you haven’t read this book by Jimmy Fallon, you must! I immediately knew I had to treat Phil to this book and some treats. I began a search for adorable local bakeries. I found one with some great options! My man loves a good chocolate chip cookie!

Pro Tip: It’s all about knowing your loved ones and treating them to the things they love. My hubby and I will sometimes pick out our own presents, but we always find a card that says just the right thing and try to make the day as special as possible.

I am sure if you asked him though, the best part of his first Father’s Day was getting to spend time with his little girl, and we had so much fun with him!

We truly hope that all you fathers have a really special day this Sunday! Whether celebrating at home or out and about, we hope you get to spend time with your loved ones, that they tell you how much you do for them, and give you extra hugs and kisses! Happy Father’s Day from Side by Side Design!

We are so excited to once again share our monthly inspiration with all of you! Each month, we look forward to getting the chance to sit down and really think about what’s inspiring us, make predictions for the month ahead, and reflect on the past month. As usual, we have each selected a photo that represents our overall inspiration and have paired it with two interior shots and two events that coordinate with its color scheme and overall concept. In addition, we have provided you with our designer tips to keep you on trend for the month ahead.

Tami’s inspired: I kinda love that this month I get to attend a bunch of events! A black tie gala, an engagement party, and Father’s Day festivities … So much fun! The events side of our business isn’t slowing down at all either. In fact, we have barely had time to tell you about all the awesome projects we have recently signed on to. Let’s just say big things are happening for Side by Side Design right now! With all the craziness that is my life, I also agreed to host a BBQ for the man in my life. Hence why my inspo pic is a lamb chop. I will definitely make it a priority this month to show my fathers and the one who gave me my baby how much I appreciate them! Yay Dads!

What’s my designer tip this month? Add in a touch of masculine energy! The man in my life would love heavy wooden details like this live edge headboard and an all wood kitchen island. I happen to like them too! I always say you can’t have a party without tons of flowers, but anything green really does the trick. This would be the perfect set up for Father’s Day this year, don’t you think?

Lauren’s inspired: What’s inspiring me this month? These three bright personalities! I am so very proud of them as they all finished school this week. Two are moving on from their first year of preschool, and one graduated from Kindergarten. My daughter Ava’s birthday also happens to be this month, so it seems I will be celebrating all month long. What did she pick as her party theme? Super heroes, and I find it fitting because her sisters look up to her so much. I picked a bright and fun concept because in our house we are going into summer like …

What’s my designer tip this month? Have some summer fun! If it’s color that you love, find an awesome pattern to paint on the wall (Like we are doing at my in-laws house right now … Stay tuned!). Or find the right pieces to give your room a pop. If color is not usually your thing, but you are digging it for the summer months, find a few bright accessories to add to your space and you can enjoy them for as long as you want. As for that summer party you are throwing, why not fill up your entire pool with floats and balloons or order your favorite treat in every color of the rainbow?

Here at Side by Side Design, we look forward to an exciting month including all the details from Ava’s “Super Six” birthday party, lots of Father’s Day inspiration, updates from a super special modern home we have been working on, and more! Don’t forget to check out our next Get Inspired post on July 5th for all new looks and inspiration! This one’s a personal one you guys … My parents recently remodeled their kitchen, and I was excited to help. I wanted to give them a fresh new look. I remember when we moved into this house twenty years ago (Eek!). That just tells you that it was probably about time for a remodel and time to get rid of a whole bunch of stuff! Their old kitchen had a country flair to it, and they wanted to keep a little of that while modernizing it to go with the today’s fresh clean look.

In Process

The first thing that had to go was their super country style backsplash and old worn doors and drawer fronts. Not to mention those hideous recessed can lights in the ceiling!

We then removed all of the countertops … Who wants tile with grout anymore?

By replacing the sink cabinet, we were able to give them a nice, new farmhouse sink which I am pretty sure is my mom’s favorite part of her new kitchen.

A fresh coat of paint, a new island color …

… and new cabinet doors and drawers in a shaker style …

… All new stainless steel appliances …

… A gorgeous Vadara quartz countertop to tie the whole look together …

… and curated country accessories for personality with some of my mom’s favorites from her chicken collection!

Here’s the finished product! Congratulations Mom and Dad on making it happen! I love how it all turned out, and I love even more that I was able to help bring your dream kitchen to life!
