It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This country kitchen! I have been working this month on our parent’s kitchen. It is just about done! In fact, Tami and I went over to put accessories in place this week, and it is looking better than ever! I know they will be beyond happy to have this updated look but still with their country style, and I promise to share finished pictures soon. (Written by: Lauren)

#2: This mama! I am so excited to be planning a really special event next month for a gorgeous mom and a bunch of her girlfriends. What a great idea to plan a post Mother’s Day friends lunch to make up for the fact that sometimes the actual day can be “a bit of a let down”. The theme? … Rosè, of course! (Written by: Tami)

#3: This chair! This dining chair just arrived for my client’s West Hollywood modern dining area. To say I am a bit obsessed with it is an understatement … Nice work Kelly Hoppen! We will be sharing the finished room as soon as the installation is complete. Can’t wait! (Written by: Lauren)

#4: This vendor! We had the opportunity this month of working with a really fun caterer (and mom of twins), Gina Feeds, on our Block Party Bar Mitzvah! Gina really got our vision for setting up awesome stations that had a sort of food truck-y feel and her food was delish! I hope to keep this relationship going with more events in our future! Check out next Wednesday’s post to see all of the details from Spencer’s Block Party Bar Mitzvah. (Written by: Tami)

#5: This hunky king! Anyone else completely obsessed with GOT and super upset to see it end? I am honestly trying to make the most of each week and soak in every last minute the producers give us. A few weeks ago, our family got together to watch the first episode and we challenged ourselves to come up with fun food options that went along with the theme. What do you think about my Jon Snow brownies? (Written by: Tami)

Follow us on Instagram @sidebysidedesign for more all month long as we share our Designer Day! We plan to share our “Favorite Five” for the month of May on the 31st, and as always will be sharing what’s inspiring us for the month ahead on the first Friday. See ya soon!

If you remember our last post about this Modern Elegance home, you will remember that I said it is amazing having the perfect blank canvas to work with and an amazing client as well! When we first began working on this project several months ago, he wanted to start with the master closet first and move on from there. We took a small break from this space in order to get some furniture going in the home and to find the right manufacturer or closet company to work with. We have narrowed it down to a few at this point, and I feel like we narrowed down the design as well along the way.

As I said, it is a completely blank canvas! This whole room is intended as a master his and hers closet, and a magnificent one it is going to be!

In Process

We want to keep this space completely open while still giving dedicated closet space to him and her separately. At the end of the walkway there is a separate room which my client intends to use as a gym, and I think it will be very cool to have shoes going down the whole right side wall with a full length mirror in the center. We want to give each of them plenty of space for hanging and for their amazing wardrobes but still have the overall boutique feel.

Master Closet Inspiration

This board shows the overall concept for the closet with an overall high end Italian feel. We want to incorporate some sort of rich veneer mixed with glass and metal and give each portion of the closet touches of masculinity or femininity to define the separate spaces.

These images show more of our inspiration. I love the sofa at the end of the island, the mixed materials, glass doors with metal surrounds, the leather ceiling, and the overall pristine look.

One more board I put together … The image on the right shows the concept for the shoe wall (Although, we will need to fit in more shoes than this!). I love how they did the lighting in this space, and I actually kinda love the low seating area in the window with the draperies framing it off.

My client’s taste is definitely reflected in the overall look of this master closet, however he has also requested while designing the space that this needs to be a huge selling feature if he chooses to list the property. I believe we have come up with an overall timeless, classic, and elegant look that should serve him and the future well. What do you think? Last week we gave you a very detailed description of our Spring Event Services, and you all know we love some good inspiration, so we thought what better way to show what we are thinking than to follow up with a Spring Dinner Inspiration post. This will give a taste at what we come up with when planning for our event clients and the process we take to get there.

First things first, we always create one of our signature inspiration boards to show our clients what the overall look and feel of their event will be. Isn’t this the perfect setting for a spring dinner of any kind?

This photo was a favorite as soon as we set our eyes upon it (Thanks Pinterest for being a go to resource for us these past seven years! Congrats on going public!). We love the crisp white backdrop it provides, and it would be a super simple look to recreate. Here’s how …

Start with a little ambiance! We love the way lights drastically change any space, and these String Twinkle Market Lights will make such an impact on an otherwise neutral backyard setting.

We have an extensive list of vendors that we have found to be amazing to work with. One of these vendors, Signature Party Rentals has been our go to rentals company for a long time. They really are a one stop shop as they typically have everything we are looking for and more such as these Oak Vineyard Chairs (Add a cushion for extra comfort!) …

… and these Ibiza White Linens. Now we have created that gorgeous white backdrop we were going for!

This table setting is a perfect compliment to the photo we chose to portray the overall look. It is also crisp and clean but has some great unique features as well.

Signature Party Rentals is our go to for classic dinnerware as well! Their Pure Glassware is modern and the perfect start to our selections …

… along with their White Elegant China.

Add a bit of texture with linens such as these Ivory Hemstitch Napkins.

Rose gold is all the rage right now! This Rose Gold Flatware will add a unique touch to the otherwise white table and will be loved by all of the guests who attend this special dinner!

This last photo shows how to incorporate the overall look of the event’s decor into more of the backyard setting. Obviously, you can’t have this look without bringing in the proper florist (or gardener if you want to have this look all year long), but there is one more thing we think is a must have!

We saw these Wood + Rope Lanterns at one of our favorite affordable places to shop (West Elm) this week, and they modernize the look a bit. Plus they are so fabulous!

We really are just a phone call away if you are still looking to put together an event in your home this spring! For more information on any of our Spring Services please contact us at or call Tami Daks, our Event Coordinator, at (480) 628-8264.

Our newest series, Hosting at Home, is a place for us to share the creative touches we add to our space when hosting in our own homes as well as tips from us as event planners for how to pull off a similar look or type of event at home. These events are not fancy and super pre-planned like the ones you are used to seeing us do but rather casual and impromptu. The content of these particular blog posts is meant to inspire each of you to invite friends over for a last minute BBQ, to pull out dishes you haven’t used in a while, and to find those random accessories that help make your table look unique. Keep it causal! None of this is sponsored … It’s from the heart and straight to you from our very own homes. Enjoy!

My friend Nelly and have been talking about putting together a Tacos and Tequila night for some time, and we finally decided to tie it into Scott’s birthday … Cuz why not? We had some awesome bottles of tequila on hand (Hence where the idea came from.), hired our favorite taco cart, invited our closest friends, and decided to make it a game night as well … But of course I couldn’t just stop there! When hosting at home, I love to put my personal spin on each and every event, and somehow they usually end up turning out a little fancy even when the theme may not be. Thanks to my in-laws, I had a quiet home the day of the event and really enjoyed putting the whole look together. I had ideas beforehand of course, but the finished look exceeded my expectations.

As a hostess, I always try to dress the part and fit the look of my event. In this case, I knew I would be running around, so I wore my favorite flats and a comfy pair of jeans but with a festive red top.

I put out a few decorations on my breakfast table to add an extra place for people to sit. Shh … Don’t tell! I took a frame I have and turned it upside down. Add a candle and some greenery, and you got yourself a centerpiece.

The main eating took place on my brand new dining table that I got delivered that day (Talk about timing!). To protect my new table, I put down this festive runner I have been waiting to use and some round woven placemats. A few candles and some fresh sage from my garden completed the look and smelled amazing. Here’s a tip … Find creative ways to use what you have on hand. No need to buy all new decor when hosting at home!

I set up stations in my kitchen with appetizers, desserts, and drinks each with a festive touch.

The tequila bar featured three flavors of Sesion (Mocha being my personal favorite which we drank at dessert time.). I filled a little leather box I had with all of the accessories needed to make your own drinks.

I created a cheeseboard to fit my theme as well (and because Scott loves a good cheeseboard!) …

… and a dessert display for those with a sweet tooth!

You can’t have a Tacos and Tequila party without tacos! We hired my favorite taco cart company. Their food is so good!

In our house, games and gifts go hand in hand. We are a bit competitive, but we know how to reward our winners!

A little celebratory treat at the end of the night is appropriate for every birthday! Happy Birthday Scott! Thanks for giving us all a reason to celebrate!

When hosting in your home, do what feels most natural to you while trying to push yourself a little each time to think outside the box. Until next time … Happy Hosting from Side by Side Design!
