Last week, we mentioned a fabulous group of girls we have started a monthly “Mompreneurs Meeting” with, and this group of girls moves to action fast! Can you believe we have already planned and executed our first collaboration? When I say we worked well together, and that moms who are business owners are unstoppable, I am truly giving you just a taste of what we accomplished. Here are the details:

Let me start by setting the scene … Our friends Lesa and Ariella are the proud owners of Bryck and Mortar (a fabulous space in the Brentwood Town Center for local clothing, accessory, and lifestyle brands to pop up). This was the perfect place to set up our event. Another friend and fellow #momboss, Rachel of Rachel Miriam has recently designed a collection with Molly Sims (MollyxRM Sweetheart Collection) benefiting Baby2Baby, and wanted to create an opportunity for people to give a little love to children in need for Valentine’s Day! Where do we come in? Decor and party planning, of course! It truly was an amazing day of people coming together for a great cause!

The other shops in the Brentwood Town Center pulled out all the stops as well; bringing coffee and pastries (Thanks Le Pain!) for all of our guests to enjoy, providing discounts and freebies the day of, and overall just being awesome!

Rachel and Molly put together a little activity for a big donation. Guests were asked to decorate a bag and fill it with candy and stickers to give to a child in need. I L-O-V-E how they turned out and love even more that this was done for such a great cause!

Do you love the MollyxRM Sweetheart Collection as much as we do!? We set up their table in style with all kinds of heart decor and some fresh flowers.

We also included a little set up for our own materials to share with the people of Brentwood what Side by Side Design is all about!

I am especially obsessed with the sprinkles of handmade heart confetti that we put everywhere …

… and of course you can’t have a party without fresh flowers!

At the end of the day, we all got to enjoy handing over all of the decorated bags to a representative from Baby2Baby. What a success!

Thank you to all who participated in this special pop up event; @paige @cosbar @hpeactivewear @platefit @pressedjuicery @aziamyoga @birthstonescents @labellroseapparel @ladylaycollection @bluebottle @lepainquotidienusa and especially our girls Lesa and Ariella @bryckandmortar and Rachel @rachelmiriamla! A special thank you to @mollybsims for providing us all an opportunity to collaborate with each other and craft for a cause!

We have both made it our tradition to spend Valentine’s Day at home and take this as our opportunity to set the table beautifully while making a special meal for our hubbys. We have had fun in the past coming up with a menu consisting of food items that we do not regularly serve and fun themes that will keep things exciting. As a mom, Lauren has continued this tradition in a more kid-friendly fashion, and this year will once again plan something special for her husband and all three of her girls. As a new mom, Tami is excited to incorporate her daughter into her plan as well. Here’s a look back on how we each celebrated Valentine’s Day last year.

T Side: My relationship with Phil started out with a cheesy pick up line about pizza, I am sure that throughout our over four years together we have shared numerous slices, and it just so happened that one of the few things that actually tasted good to me all throughout my pregnancy is pizza as well! Good enough reason for a theme? I think so! Last year’s Valentine’s Day was weeks away from my due date, and I had a few things on my mind … I wanted to keep things simple and eat whatever sounded good! So, I decided to throw an impromptu pizza party for me and my love.

They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and my man also happens to be a fan of cheesy sayings, so I created a card that I knew he would love. Here’s one more lame (but fun) line I included … You still take my breath away … even though I get winded just walking up the stairs. Not bad for a little pregnancy humor, huh?

He knows that the way to my heart is through fresh flowers and peanut M&M’s, so he surprised me with what I love too!

I set our table with just a few simple touches … No need to do extra dishes or spend lots of time cleaning up.

This apron (a family member brought me back one year from Italy) could not have been more perfect for our theme. I loved getting the chance to cook together with my husband last Valentine’s Day!

We made a simple yet delicious salad that consisted of arugula, heirloom tomato, feta cheese, and shallots.

I bought our favorite wheat pizza dough from Trader Joe’s and we made our own homemade pizzas. Toppings included: marinated artichokes, pepperoni, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil.

Who doesn’t love root beer floats for dessert?

L Side: With three little girls at home, I decided to do something last year that they would get excited about and molded my whole concept around the theme of an “ice cream parlor”. I used some of their cute Melissa and Doug parlor toys as decor and set the table with adorable place mats and personalized valentine’s for each of my favorite people.

I put out fun toppings and cute little signs to decorate the table with and to give the whole look a sort of retro / pastel / “Saved by the Bell” type parlor feel.

I made a conscious effort to make my dining table look different than our standard every day meal and covered the table in a silver mesh fabric I had lying around topped with festive foam place mats with glittery hearts.

We used the center box as a holder for all of our fun valentine’s. Ava made some, and Scott even got creative with his computer at work.

We keep it simple in our house. No fancy dinners out or expensive gifts, but we add special touches and create an experience at home that is different than our day to day.

Simple parlor food included burgers, chicken fingers, shakes (Ours were spiked!) …

… and ice cream sundaes with every type of toppings! The kids had so much fun decorating their own!

Of course we had to end the night in matching PJ’s … Cuz why not!?

We each plan to have an equally special Valentine’s Day this year! Lauren, Scott, and the girls are continuing to keep things simple and keep their at-home tradition alive while Tami and Phil will enjoy spending this day with their daughter Joie in on the plans. Whatever you plan to do with your Valentine this year, remember that what is really important is that you make the day special and show them how much you really love them! Happy Valentine’s Day from Side by Side Design!

Who runs the world? If you don’t already know the answer to this question … Listen to Beyonce immediately! Last week, we had the opportunity to host in Lauren’s home the first official meeting of our new club (a group made up of women we know who all own their own companies and also happen to be moms). All of these women have inspired us in their own way and we thought it would be amazing to bring them all together monthly to pick each other’s brains, discuss mutual topics of interest, and above all find ways to collaborate! If you haven’t already, check out all of these #bossbabes and what they do on IG! @bryckandmortar @rachelmiriamla @itsorganized

When hosting at home, it is important to make sure there are spaces for your guests to congregate. As this was a meeting setting, we gathered additional seating in Lauren’s living room and fluffed up her pillows so everyone would have a comfortable place to sit.

A few flower arrangements were quickly made to make the space feel special.

The piece de resistance was this stunning display of cheeses, nuts, and other small bites. In fact, the meeting never ended up moving into the other room. We found ourselves gathered around Lauren’s breakfast table for hours sharing our hopes and dreams for the futures of our businesses!

Cheers to all of these ladies and their future endeavors! We truly cannot wait until the next time we meet … In fact, the first collaboration has been planned and is happening today! Come volunteer with us at the MollySimsxRM pop up event today (February 6th) between 8 – 1 at bryck@mortar to decorate Valentine’s Day gifts for the children of Baby2Baby. Come shop the MollySimsxRM Sweetheart Collection, get discounts on Brentwood Town Center shops, meet us, and more! We are so excited to once again share our monthly inspiration with all of you! Each month, we look forward to getting the chance to sit down and really think about what’s inspiring us, make predictions for the month ahead, and reflect on the past month. As usual, we have each selected a photo that represents our overall inspiration and have paired it with two interior shots and two events that coordinate with its color scheme and overall concept. In addition, we have provided you with our designer tips to keep you on trend for the month ahead.

Tami’s inspired: I love that it has become our tradition to celebrate Valentine’s Day at home. This year won’t just be me and Phil, but Joie too … So I have been thinking of ways to incorporate her into the plan. I haven’t quite figured it all out yet (and Phil let me know he wants to do the cooking this year), but I do know that I would love to figure out a way to show these two that “I love them to the moon and back”! Any way, whatever we end up doing, or however I piece together some cute decor, it will be nice to take a break to be with those I love.

What’s my designer tip this month? Pick a color scheme you love to the moon and back! Whether it be our two favorite colors (black + white) or your own combinations, it’s what you see every day, so make sure it suits you. I love incorporating black and white into almost everything but especially love finding new ways to do so. These milk glass wine glasses are everything and so is a black wall when done right. This black and white art is stunning, and these invitations are finished off just right!

Lauren’s inspired: This is still one of my absolute favorite photos (taken of my little flower girls at Tami’s wedding.) These girls inspire me every day, and I can’t believe at the end of this month Cara and Sienna are going to be three. It is one of the coolest things I have ever experienced to see my twins grow up, build their bond, and remind me each and every day of me and my own twin sister. Obviously this month we’ll be busy celebrating, but we also have some awesome collaborations in the works that I am super excited about, and the continuous events and celebrations keep on going this month too.

What’s my designer tip this month? It’s never too early to start preparing for Spring! Adding some flowers into my space (even when it won’t stop raining) makes me very happy. Mix up your pillow game, and switch out your accessories. You can create this look in your events as well really any time of year indoors or out (if the weather permits). It automatically brings a cheerfulness and can trick your mind to think that it’s warmer than it is.

Here at Side by Side Design, we look forward to an exciting month including a look at how each of us set up for Valentine’s Day last year, details from our Sweets and Sunflowers Bat Mitzvah party and another event with an ultra fun theme, updates on Lauren’s many interior projects, and more! Don’t forget to check out our next Get Inspired post on March 1st for all new looks and inspiration! Also, check out our new Instastories feature “Designer Day!” @sidebysidedesign to see how we fill our days with the things we love.
