I worked on the design of this Modern Farmhouse Kitchen with an awesome family. It has been done for a little while, but I just got these fabulous pictures and was so excited that I couldn’t wait to share them. I think you will be blown away by the transformation!

There were so many things about this kitchen that my clients wanted to change that they decided to embark on a full renovation project, and I am so glad they did! New cabinets, countertops, appliances, plumbing and light fixtures, the backsplash, the flooring, and even the layout got switched out creating a kitchen that fit their needs, their lifestyle, their design aesthetic, and the overall flow of the house so much better … Take a look!

Kitchen Inspiration

The number one feedback I got in regards to the design was to keep things clean and mostly white with some special details but not a lot of fuss. We wanted to keep the style in line with the farmhouse style of their home while keeping things modern and crisp. I pulled these photos from different sources on Pinterest to give them the overall look we were going for, and we used them as inspiration in creating our design.

What a transformation, right? We created a layout to maximize the space and give them a much larger island (perfect for preparing as well as eating). We moved the sink area to the large open window and purchased their Kohler farmhouse sink and faucet from BJ Discount. The prep sink and faucets on the island are also from Kohler, and they compliment each other nicely.

I love that we were able to create the overall look my clients wanted for this space with the window to the outside going all the way to the counter and with no backsplash behind. It gives such an open feel to this space.

The millwork details in this kitchen are what makes it so special. I love how the sides of the cabinets and the integrated hood turned out. The ceiling is absolutely stunning as well!

We selected a marbleized quartz countertop and a coordinating backsplash with just enough detail to give this kitchen a little extra character while not taking away from the overall look. We went with a shaker door for all of the cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, and oil rubbed bronze hardware to finish it off.

I think the items, though, that really give this kitchen some warmth and even more character are the gorgeous wood floors, the rustic barstools, and this incredible Wolf range. These details are what dream kitchens are made of!

I was so lucky to get to work with this family Side by Side on this special project as well as a few other spaces in their home (Check out our post about their powder bathroom and how we used the same tile two different ways here). We are even more lucky (in true Side by Side Design fashion), that they have hired Tami to coordinate their son’s Bar Mitzvah coming up next month. I have seen the details, and I know it is going to be amazing! For more information on our design services, contact us at info@sbsdesignla.com.

We want to start by acknowledging something super exciting … Today is our 1,000th blog post since we started Side by Side Design over seven years ago!!! If you have been following us since the beginning, you know we have come a very long way, and we truly appreciate you sticking with us. If you are a brand new reader, we hope you’ll stay!

It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This master bedroom! I just saw a photo of the gorgeous bed that will fit in this space. It is almost completed and will be ready for delivery in a few more weeks. To say that I am excited to see this project come to life is an understatement, but when you work on something for almost two years it is hard not to get attached. Look for more updates soon on the blog. (Written by: Lauren)

#2: This #momboss! We are so lucky to be partnering up with a true “mompreneur” on a bunch of upcoming projects! Our girl, Rachel Miriam, started her own business curating collections with celebrities, personalizing each item she sells, and even donating part of the proceeds to different charities … What an inspiration! I truly take this clutch everywhere I go. I love it so much, and cannot wait to share what Rachel and her partnering celebs are working on next. As her Luxury Event Producers, Lauren and I look forward to representing her brand at many upcoming events. (Written by: Tami)

#3: This specialty finish! Angel has been killing it lately! In addition to all of the amazing artwork that she has been doing, she has been creating specialty finishes like the one on this amazing elevator wall to elevate the spaces in the homes I have been working on. She has a secret technique for her process, and the finishes she has come up with are so unique and special especially since they can be done with so many different custom options. In fact, to date no two are the same. (Written by: Lauren)

#4: This vendor! We have had the opportunity to work with Amanda Rose on our last couple events and cannot think of anything but awesome things to say! It is extremely important to us that florists that we work with get our vision and can create beautiful arrangements, but Amanda looks outside the box (or vase, LOL) and always has a huge smile on her face! We can’t wait to work with her more! (Written by: Tami)

#5: These tones! We have come up with an overall color scheme for the big house we are designing in Bel Air, and you might be a little surprised when I say that brown is about to have a major comeback! Italy is the leader in the design world and all of the new, modern trends coming out of Italy right now are warmer in tone than the grays we have seen for the last several years. I am following suit and pushing my client towards this gorgeous and luxurious color scheme. What do you think? (Written by: Lauren)

Several months ago, we proudly joined a committee of University Synagogue congregants and employees to help in coordinating their annual gala. The committee members worked on everything from sponsorships to marketing, and we took our role of planning the decor very seriously for their Denim to Diamonds themed event. Today, we are excited to share the details with all of you.

As guests arrived they were greeted and given their seating instructions and Opportunity Drawing tickets. We decorated the registration area with cheerful bouquets of sunflowers by Amanda Rose Florals in mason jars and antique glass lanterns.

They stopped just long enough at the entrance to snap a few photos in front of the synagogue’s step and repeat … After all, each guest was dressed to impress in however they best interpreted the Denim to Diamonds theme (even Lauren and Scott).

Whiskey barrel bars from Yorba Linda Feed Store were set up for guests to grab a beer, glass of wine, or signature drink …

… and those who enjoy whiskey got to take part in a tasting!

Tray passed appetizers and a make-your-own guacamole bar were a huge hit!

As this event was a fundraising opportunity for the temple, guests were given the opportunity to put their name in to win amazing experiences such as trips, hotel stays, concerts, Broadway shows, and more.

During the cocktail hour, in addition to eating, drinking, and mingling, cowboys and cowgirls were found snapping photos in the photo booth.

We selected a mix of sequin and gingham tablecloths from Signature Party Rentals to bring the Denim to Diamonds theme into the decor as well. Table shape varied too. We used some round (more formal tables) and some rectangular to give that backyard BBQ feel.

Rhinestone table numbers and gorgeous place settings finished off the look.

The temple’s clergy was called on to say a quick blessing before eating …

… and a winning couple was chosen for the best wardrobe award!

Our Kosher Table provided a wide variety of cuisine that fit into this western theme but in a more classy way including BBQ brisket and chicken, succotash and potato salads, and mouthwatering branzino.

After dinner, DJ Michael Moves and Kyle got the party started!

Guests loved learning the moves to all kinds of fun line dances.

For dessert … Peach cobbler and a make-your-own s’mores station. Oh so good!

At the end of the night, the winners of the opportunity drawing were announced! What a fun evening of catching up with old friends, getting dressed up, and supporting a very special cause!

As we mentioned, this event was coordinated by a committee of temple members and staff who met monthly (and then weekly) to make sure that every detail was well planned out and a true representation of the synagogue and its members we were celebrating.  A special shout out to Susan (the committee’s chair) as well as Nancy, Jaime, Lisa, Doreen, Julia, Jill, Toby, Lauren, and Bonnie for all of their hard work! We are so lucky to have been part of such a great team!

Last week, we mentioned a fabulous group of girls we have started a monthly “Mompreneurs Meeting” with, and this group of girls moves to action fast! Can you believe we have already planned and executed our first collaboration? When I say we worked well together, and that moms who are business owners are unstoppable, I am truly giving you just a taste of what we accomplished. Here are the details:

Let me start by setting the scene … Our friends Lesa and Ariella are the proud owners of Bryck and Mortar (a fabulous space in the Brentwood Town Center for local clothing, accessory, and lifestyle brands to pop up). This was the perfect place to set up our event. Another friend and fellow #momboss, Rachel of Rachel Miriam has recently designed a collection with Molly Sims (MollyxRM Sweetheart Collection) benefiting Baby2Baby, and wanted to create an opportunity for people to give a little love to children in need for Valentine’s Day! Where do we come in? Decor and party planning, of course! It truly was an amazing day of people coming together for a great cause!

The other shops in the Brentwood Town Center pulled out all the stops as well; bringing coffee and pastries (Thanks Le Pain!) for all of our guests to enjoy, providing discounts and freebies the day of, and overall just being awesome!

Rachel and Molly put together a little activity for a big donation. Guests were asked to decorate a bag and fill it with candy and stickers to give to a child in need. I L-O-V-E how they turned out and love even more that this was done for such a great cause!

Do you love the MollyxRM Sweetheart Collection as much as we do!? We set up their table in style with all kinds of heart decor and some fresh flowers.

We also included a little set up for our own materials to share with the people of Brentwood what Side by Side Design is all about!

I am especially obsessed with the sprinkles of handmade heart confetti that we put everywhere …

… and of course you can’t have a party without fresh flowers!

At the end of the day, we all got to enjoy handing over all of the decorated bags to a representative from Baby2Baby. What a success!

Thank you to all who participated in this special pop up event; @paige @cosbar @hpeactivewear @platefit @pressedjuicery @aziamyoga @birthstonescents @labellroseapparel @ladylaycollection @bluebottle @lepainquotidienusa and especially our girls Lesa and Ariella @bryckandmortar and Rachel @rachelmiriamla! A special thank you to @mollybsims for providing us all an opportunity to collaborate with each other and craft for a cause!
