We are really excited to announce that Side by Side Design is adding gorgeous custom pieces of art into so many client’s homes. I know we have talked about this before (as seen in our previous post, Art by Angel), but I feel like we have finally perfected the process, and couldn’t be more excited! We are now starting to sell even more of these custom pieces, and have decided to share this process with all of you because we are so proud of the work we are doing, and we know you will want to get in on the fun!

Here’s how it works …

Step 1: You find a custom piece you are obsessed with on any inspiration site of your choice (or hire us to do it for you!).

Step 2: We meet with you and our artist to discuss your inspiration, measure for the correct size, and come up with a color story that fits your home (We’ll help you with that part too!).

Step 3: We meet a second time to see the sample board our artist has created and make any tweaks or changes needed at this time.

Step 4: She creates your art, and you get to see for final approval. Trust me, you will love it … but if there is anything you want to change, it’s still ok to do so.

Step 5: We take your finished work to the framer and send you frame options to choose from. When it’s all done and ready to go, we will even deliver it to your home!

My new house was in much need of some awesome art for my walls, so even I got in on the action. Here are some photos of my finished pieces. To say I am obsessed is an understatement! Angel is so talented! In case you are wondering what this service costs … It depends on the size but it ranges from about $800 – $1,500 including the framing (I know, super affordable right?). It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This wall! I was hired by a very special couple to finish off two spaces in their home. Some of the areas just needed finishing touches such as accessories, a last piece of furniture, etc, but this wall was simply just too massive and needed the right details to make the space feel complete. We are working now with my amazing artist, Angel, to come up with a specialty finish for this space, and I know it is going to be awesome! (Written by: Lauren)

#2: This upcoming event! Our Denim to Diamonds gala event is just a little over two weeks away and we are busy getting the decor ready and dusting off our jewels and cowboy boots! Did I mention that we get to work with some of our very favorite vendors to bring the temple’s overall vision to life? We know DJ Michael is going to bring out all of his favorite moves for this one (like he did at our last western themed event). Can’t wait! (Written by: Tami)

#3: These pillows! Sometimes it just takes the right detail to finish off a space. My client’s existing sofa worked with his new decor, but the pillows on it simply did not, and they were really taking away from the overall vibe we were going for. I ordered the most amazing pillows from a few sources including some of my favorites (Barneys and Saks) and they really took this space to a new level! (Written by: Lauren)

#4: This vendor (or rather venue)! Last weekend we had the opportunity to work with a really awesome staff in a really special location, Tiato Kitchen + Garden Venue. This picture is a sneak peek at some of the decor we brought in for our client’s Sweets and Sunflowers Bat Mitzvah party, but you can visit any time of year and dine under all of these magical lights. Thank you Tiato for providing delicious food, a fun atmosphere, and a staff who truly loves what they do! Planning an indoor / outdoor event in the near future? Consider this space in Santa Monica. It is perfection! (Written by: Tami)

#5: This birthday recap! Last week, we shared how we celebrated our birthday separately in our Birthday Recap post. However, as we mentioned, our birthday tradition is to plan an evening together with our husbands where we dine at a local hot spot, drink some wine, and get dressed up (cuz why not!). This year the celebrations continued with dinner at The Huntley Hotel and a family night out (adults only) to see Elton John in his farewell tour. We have had so much fun and have made so many memories. Happy Birthday to us! (Written by: Tami)

Follow us on Instagram @sidebysidedesign for more all month long as we share our Designer Day! We plan to share our “Favorite Five” for the month of February on the 22nd and as always will be sharing what’s inspiring us for the month ahead on the first Friday. See ya soon!

Here at Side by Side Design, there is nothing we love more than working closely with a family to meet all of their design needs, and this major life event I am sharing today is a beautiful representation of what we are all about! As Lauren has been working on adding finishing touches to this family’s home for the last few years, I was very honored to be asked to work with them to make their daughter’s Bat Mitzvah vision come to life. Not to mention, I got to spend time really getting to know this awesome family! The process for planning such a special day takes a lot of hard work, patience, and creativity. I love that Ava (the Bat Mitzvah girl), her mom, and I really each got to take turns coming up with ideas and seeing them through but also worked closely together as a team (along with a bunch of spectacular vendors who each brought something very special to this day). Each detail represents Ava, her favorite things, and this special milestone in her life. I have broken this event into two parts (as this is how the day was set up) starting with the luncheon Ava and her family hosted at their temple. Stay tuned for the post sharing all of the details for her evening party coming soon!

Ava’s parents beamed with pride as they watched her read from the Torah on her Bat Mitzvah day. I don’t want to embarrass her (in case she reads this), but I need to mention that this girl is truly one of a kind! She is confident, creative, and has the most beautiful way of thinking of others even when planning her own special day. Shout out to Kim Fox Photography for taking these stunning shots of Ava and her family to help them always remember this day!

Custom kippot in the party’s color scheme, personalized programs, and an adorable arrangement of sunflowers (Ava’s favorite flower) were placed just outside the sanctuary door for guests to take and enjoy as they entered.

When arriving at the luncheon following the service, guests were greeted by thirteen photos of the Bat Mitzvah girl … One for each year of her life! I absolutely love this personalized acrylic card box too!

A custom seating chart created by Bojack Studios allowed each adult to find their spot within the room while the kids headed over to the “VIP section”!

A mostly white backdrop allowed for pops of shades of teal, yellow, and gold to make a huge statement.

We incorporated a mix of balloons and flowers to add interest and height into this space. I am obsessed with these flower arrangements made by Amanda Rose Florals in their fun painted mason jars. A little candy on the tables gave guests something to munch on when they found their seat. Plus Ava loves both sweets and sunflowers!

Aren’t these balloon centerpieces so much fun? Gold glitter filled balloons always make me smile! Thank you Any Occasion Balloons for creating our vision exactly!

Tradition is very important when planning an event like this. The meal started out with a blessing over the wine and challah …

… and then guests were encouraged to dig in!

Balabusta Catering pulled out all of the stops with this luncheon! The menu consisted of bagels, lox, and all the fixin’s, tuna, egg, and green salads, and even cholent for those who wanted a warm dish.

Delicious desserts were enjoyed by all!

The thing that made this luncheon most memorable was not something we could have captured in photos, but I want to share it with all of you. Ava’s family invited Kol Zimrah Acapella Group to entertain their guests with a Hora and other traditional songs as well as Ava’s favorites from musicals and more to sing along with. This was such a great addition to this event and so much fun!

I want to thank Ronna and the entire staff at Temple Beth Am for all of their hard work in planning for and setting up this gorgeous luncheon as well as Ava and Julie (her mom) for being absolute dreams to work with throughout this entire process! I truly cannot wait to share with all of you how the rest of this special day unfolded … I promise I will not make you wait too long! Stay tuned!

With both of us being super busy in our personal and professional lives right now, it was really nice to slow down for even part of the day yesterday and celebrate our birthday. As is our tradition, we are looking forward to dining at a local hot spot with our significant others this coming weekend, each have plans with the different sides of our families as well, and are going to see Elton John in concert! Lots to look forward to! We love to celebrate together, but found ourselves apart this year on the actual day of. Here’s a look at how we each spent our birthday:

T Side: Tomorrow is our next big event (stay tuned for all the details from our client’s Sweets and Sunflowers Bat Mitzvah), so to say I have been busy is definitely an understatement! I did manage to spend just a little bit of time yesterday on the other things that I love (Besides my job, cuz I love that too!) … My husband and baby (Joie) showered me with cards and gifts when I woke up in the morning. I can’t wait to go shopping and enjoy a much needed massage! At night, we went to my favorite sushi spot (Chiba). It was soooo good!

L Side: I love the traditions that come with birthday celebrations. For me, there are several! My group of friends take the birthday girl out for their birthday to one of LA’s hip local restaurants (This happened a few days before.), my husband and kids throw balloons on me when I wake up on my birthday and spoil me with dinner, gifts, and other fun treats. I look forward to each of these traditions and enjoy taking a minute out of my crazy schedule to spend time with those I love. I also got a chance to get a massage yesterday which was much needed and well deserved, I must say!

This year, we got to focus on what’s really important … Spending some time with family and friends and taking some time for ourselves. Thank you so much to everyone who made this birthday special; sending texts and messages on FB and IG, calling to sing a birthday song, or getting together in person. You all mean so much to us! Have a great weekend from Side by Side Design!

Last week, we showed you the update from the Modern With Antiques Master Bathroom. It is starting to really come along. In fact, the flooring throughout got finished today and we can finally see an end in sight. I decided to share with you another update as I am so excited about the progress on this project and couldn’t wait until it is completed enough to show the finished spaces. Today I am sharing with you their amazing kitchen. Make sure to look back at our previous post to see how far it has come (Under Construction: Modern With Antiques Kitchen)!

There are so many special details that we have planned for this amazing kitchen! Silver leaf cabinetry, a gorgeous marble backsplash and countertop, high end stainless steel appliances, a unique metal pantry door, and an absolutely over-the-top edgy breakfast seating area …

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is IMG_0338-1.jpg

… But there is one detail that we didn’t really plan for in the beginning that absolutely took this room to a new level (literally)! We were able to raise the ceiling in this space almost to the height of the loft in the master bedroom and it made the most significant difference opening this space up and giving it a grand new feel.

It’s really starting to come together. The major finishes are done, but we still have some incredible elements that I can’t wait to see.

We have a stainless steel dishwasher on its way and the most magnificent La Corneu stove in stainless and brass … I know, right?

For that back corner, we have ordered a table with an edge (We fell in love with it the moment we saw it!), sleek leather dining chairs, and a glamorous chandelier.

We included a few glass cabinets to showcase some special pieces on either side of their TV and an additional countertop to use while entertaining.

As I mentioned, the appliances are on their way. They will go in next along with the pantry door, baseboard molding, and a finished coat of paint.

Wow! It’s really coming along! I can’t even begin to tell you how proud I am to see all of our hard work and intricate visions coming to life before our eyes. If you like these types of posts and want to see more, we would love to hear from you. Leave us a comment below, and tell us your thoughts!
