It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This continued celebration! Sometimes events go by so quickly, and you are just not ready to get rid of the decor.  Over here at Side by Side Design, we are notorious for making those decorations last just a little bit longer, and I did so with Ava’s birthday balloons last weekend by tying them to the teepee in her room and giving her the chance to have a celebration in her very own bedroom all week long. (Written by: Lauren)

#2: This update! Our incredible artist Angel faux painted this fireplace earlier this month. This room is taking on a major transformation from dark and dated to white and crisp, and we can’t wait to share it with all of you when it’s completed. (Written by: Lauren)

#3: This new project! I love when we get to share about a new project we are working on! This inspiration picture is one our clients and their Bar Mitzvah boy fell in love with and so did we. I can’t tell you much quite yet about what this day has planned, as we are in the beginning stages of the planning, but I know this … It will be fun, colorful, and untraditional. Can’t wait to share more as we continue the planning process. (Written by: Tami)

#4: This vendor! A few years ago (at this Bat Mitzvah), we had the pleasure of working with a really awesome company. H2H The Perfect Element DJ was so professional and so much fun to work with. We are super excited that another one of our clients hired them and we will once again be working together soon. It is sure to be a great time! (Written by: Tami)

#5: This kitchen! This kitchen cabinetry finally got installed this month at our client’s Modern With Antiques home. I love working on a project with my dad and can’t wait to see the specialty finish we are using on this cabinetry come to life … Stay tuned! (Written by: Lauren)

We plan to share our “Favorite Five” for the month of July on the 27th, and of course will be sharing what’s inspiring us for the month ahead on the first Friday of the month. See ya soon!

Ava was pretty set this year on her party theme. She and all of her closest girlfriends are absolutely obsessed with the whole LOL Surprise Doll craze (a bunch of tiny characters with little sisters and accessories that come in plastic surprise balls so you don’t know which one you’re going to get). When she first told me she wanted to have an LOL themed party, I said “Ok, let’s do this!” and immediately started brainstorming ideas for how to bring this to life. However, as this was our first real party in our new house (which isn’t even completely done yet), I knew I wanted to keep the guest list small and not go too crazy with the party plans. Here’s what we came up with …

We welcomed our guests through the entry in our playroom (post coming soon). It has sliding doors leading to the backyard and was the perfect place to set up the welcome table for guests to view upon arriving.

Balloons were placed by this front door to let guests know they arrived, and we filled all of the clear balloons with festive confetti reminiscent of the confetti balls Ava loves so much.

The welcome table displayed Ava’s beautiful cake, housed all of the activities to be used throughout the party, and had a spot to set gifts.

These “LOL” balloons really helped set the tone!

One of my favorite details, however, were the over-sized LOL doll temporary tattoos I found on Etsy. They were a fun decoration for the table and upon each girl’s arrival Ava was excited to help each of her friends select theirs.

The activities Ava requested for her party were pretty straightforward. We printed these awesome coloring pages from getcoloringpages.com and put out markers and colored pencils for the girls to get to work. I also put out beads and glitter string for them to make their own accessories.

This awesome cake was once again made by the amazingly talented Ashlee! I couldn’t believe it when she asked me if she could create another cake for Ava’s birthday this year, and she really hit this one out of the park. It was just as delicious as it was beautiful.

We set this table up for all the girls to enjoy and placed LOL Surprise Charm Fizz Balls at each setting to use later as another activity.

So many fun details were put into this table from the custom patterned forks we created, the aqua polka dotted napkins, the gold glitter cups, and all of the fun confetti sprinkled throughout. I rented all of my tablecloths and chairs from Alex Party Rentals and loved how the linen colors matched the party perfectly.

Ava’s place setting had an extra special detail … A unicorn crown to complete the costume of her favorite LOL character, Unicorn.

Snacks and drinks were put out for our guests to enjoy with extra patterned forks and napkins for the adults.

I loved this picture way too much not to share it!

Here’s Ava getting the tattoo of her favorite character (Twinsies!) …

… and the rest of the girls loved theirs as well!

Everyone enjoyed the delicious pizza and salads from Blaze Pizza including my little girls.

It took a while for the girls to break open this pinata that Ava’s grandpa Neil scoured Downtown in search of. Who am I kidding? Scott took one for the team and helped them out but they had fun nonetheless!

Required family cake pic! Thank goodness we got one with everyone looking at the camera …

… and some fun glittery candles to blow out.

Happy 5th Birthday to my favorite LOL Surprise Doll loving five year old, my assistant party planner, and just like a unicorn she’s one of a kind! When she went to bed that night, her last words to me were “Best birthday ever!”. I’m so glad she enjoyed her party and her special day. What more could this mama ask for!?

In our Pining For Pinterest posts, we prepare our readers for the upcoming season with interior shots alongside decor and event details in a fresh, new color story and overall look. As California girls (born and raised) we absolutely love the sunshine! So, you can imagine, we are very excited that it is officially the sunniest time of year. Even the June gloom doesn’t seem to be showing up! It’s time to do what we love best … Dine and entertain outdoors! Please enjoy as we take you through our inspiration for two totally different Summer events in our own distinct styles.

Tami’s Pins: What’s “pin”spiring me this season? The idea of having a Summer seafood soiree! I mean, who doesn’t love dining on crab legs, fresh oysters, and lobster tails galore!? Why not throw a party based solely on the type of food you’re serving? They do it all the time on the East Coast (I am told.). Get fancy, decorate to the nines, and get your clam bake on!

I’m loving this seating area as a place to take a break for those who want to get out of the sun.

Party guests are dining outdoors (not in) but can admire this dining room just the same from afar.

A perfectly manicured garden is dressed up even more with a gorgeous chandelier!

This photo is my new obsession and the whole reason for this inspiration. I want to have this party, partake in this feast … I want it all!

Formal table seating done in not such a formal way …

… and table centerpieces and floral arrangements done just right!

Party guests are encouraged to wear their most fun Summer dresses and hats … Why not?

If I had these, I would never take them off! Even if it did mean sinking into the grass just a little.

Cheers to Summer!

Lauren’s Pins: What’s “pin”spiring me this season? A truly talented woman! Recently, the world lost an incredible designer. Someone who’s work was recognized almost immediately through her very distinct style. I decided to dedicate my Pining for Pinterest board this season to Kate Spade as I know we will all continue to keep her legacy alive. I see this board as the inspiration for a party launching a new designer and her fabulous product … Someone who’s looking to inspire others with their work as well.

This living room is full of pattern in total Kate Spade style.

An eclectic breakfast nook for this young lady to enjoy her morning coffee.

A little set up by the entry welcomes each and every guest …

… and a festive table with a fun way to give guests some words to live by.

Every last touch is included.

Dressed to impress a la Kate Spade …

.. and the perfect pair of shoes finishes off her awesome outfit.

Kate’s signature!

No party is complete without the perfect cake.

This season is already a busy one, and we are so excited to continue bringing the events “Side” of our business to the next level. We look forward to all that is coming up this Summer and hopefully using some of this inspiration in our own planning. We would love to work with you in creating the right look this season by tying in the inspiration of your event with the essence of your home decor. Contact us at info@sbsdesignla.com for more information.

This space is one of my absolute favorites in my new home. It’s so charming and happened to be one of the best selling features for me when we were looking to buy this house. I finally added the finishing touches just in time for Ava’s birthday party this weekend and couldn’t wait to share it with all of you.

Before

You might remember these before pictures from the post about my Modern Bohemian Closet a little while back. I still can’t believe the previous owner closed up this space with a slider door (Sorry, can’t find a photo of this!) to use as a rental unit, however there is some real good that came from it … Namely, my new master closet. I was still able to use the main portion of it to give the house its formal entry and proper front door back.

After

Once we removed the slider door from this opening, we enlarged the space a bit and finished it off with proper moldings. It really didn’t need much as the gorgeous plants growing around this entryway is really what gives it so much character.

As I mentioned, the previous owner had closed this space but left all of the front door elements in tact. We kept all of the existing details in place only switching out the front door but kept the look the same. These windows were perfect as they create an architectural detail that lets light into the living room but also gives privacy to the space, and I absolutely love the industrial sconce and this fun horseshoe bell he had by the front door … So bohemian!

Besides the new door, my only additions were this “hello” welcome mat which my kids love and our new Ring system which keeps us all safe. We also used the same wood slat details on the right wall to close off the new closet space making it almost unnoticeable that it used to be an exterior porch.

I wanted to create a little vignette that made the space feel like an interior entry even though it is really outside.

A few accessories and this awesome mid-century bench from Amazon gives the space exactly the look I was going for. The round mirror (also from Amazon) gives us a place to check ourselves one last time before leaving the house, but my favorite detail is my new fiddle leaf fig plant I got for Mother’s Day.

I’m slowly finishing my house room by room. Scott and I want to take our time to find each detail and are enjoying this process. We look forward to welcoming our guests this weekend through our new entryway (This is a huge deal when you have been living in condos and apartments for so long) for Ava’s birthday party. Stay tuned to see our Side by Side Design take on her crazy theme of choice next Wednesday right here on the blog!

In preparation for Father’s Day this coming weekend, we decided to ask our husbands to get in on today’s blog post. We each enjoyed watching their eyes light up as we asked them this question … What do you really want (in a man cave that is)? They both took this opportunity to dream a little and shared with us very detailed descriptions (and actual products) that would make a special space just for them complete. Using their advice, we have prepared an inspiration board based on the idea that in a dream world, any man would have a huge converted garage with space to entertain their friends, a bar, a larger than large screen TV (of course), and some fun activities like shuffle board, pool, and even a race car simulator. A man can dream, can’t he?

Here are 5 must have items to include in your dream man cave:

1. GTR Racing Simulator GTSF Model Gaming Stand with Adjustable Racing Seat – Brookstone – on sale for $440.99

2. Latitude Run Heated Massage Chair – Wayfair – $799.99

3. Sony 100″ Class LED Z9D Series 2160p Smart – Best Buy – $59,999.99 … It is a dream inspiration board after all!

4. Insignia 42 Bottle or 114 Can Built-In Dual Zone Wine and Beverage Cooler / Stainless Steel – Best Buy – $699.99

5. Playcraft Georgetown Shuffleboard in Honey – Wayfair – $1,594.99

We’d like to wish a special Happy Father’s Day to Lauren’s husband (Scott) and father of their three little girls and to Tami’s husband Phil who is celebrating his first Father’s Day! Thanks guys for sharing your dreams and expertise with us. We love you!
