Today we are welcoming back a home tour from our past (as seen on our previous Vintage Inspired posts; teen bedroom, office, and powder bathroom). We always get excited when a client is ready to get started on a new space in their home. This particular one is so talented. She did most of the design herself, but called on me as a consultant to keep her on track and help her through the process. I love how it all turned out … Great work Phoebe!

Almost everything was gutted in this kitchen renovation, but the overall layout stayed pretty much the same. We installed new cabinetry in a crisp white color, and I love how the glass upper cabinets turned out.

Check out these new stainless steel Kitchen Aid appliances and the awesome white farmhouse sink. The wood floating shelves and pendant lights really gives this kitchen so much character, and I love how the slate countertop gives a nice contrast to the space.

Here’s a photo showing how this space ties in with the breakfast nook which they did a great job on as well.

A new, cozy space for the family to eat their meals with a few funky vintage touches.

I found this awesome bench fabric and had a custom cushion made to fit their new storage bench. I love how much character it has.

One final detail … Phoebe had her contractor add this awesome bookcase to finish off her refrigerator wall, and I love how it gives the space extra storage and a beautiful finished edge.

We worked on their adjacent powder bathroom in tandem with this project (as seen on our previous post, Same Tile Two Ways), and I absolutely love how they tie in with one another but how they each have their own unique flair. I really enjoyed working on this project, and I am always happy when my client is happy!

We are beyond grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way this month, especially in regards to one particular project we are working on. Today, we continue to show you five favorites (This time, in honor of Ava’s upcoming 5th birthday, from Ava’s 1st birthday until now). We are proud of the themes we have come up with, the decor we have created, and the overall party experiences. We are excited to share this story with you, let you in on a few sneak peeks of what we have in the works for this year’s festivities, share photos of the birthday girl over the last five years, and highlight a few vendors that deserve recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This beautiful butterfly garden! To celebrate this special girl’s first birthday, we needed to come up with a very special theme. We wanted the decor to have an overall soft nature and be a bit boho in style and therefore came up with the idea of creating a butterfly garden (as seen on our previous post, Ava’s 1st Birthday Party). Plus, butterflies played a big part in Lauren’s first pregnancy, her baby shower, and Ava’s nursery too. It was a beautiful day made even more beautiful by all of the friends and family that came to celebrate with Ava and her family. What were the highlights? This gorgeous scene of cascading tissue paper flowers, a banner of photos from each of Ava’s 12 months, a delicious catered lunch from Lemonade, a candy buffet with some snacks for the babies, and Ava getting her first chance to smash and eat cake!

#2: These things: ice cream, swimming, and the color lavender! For her second birthday, Lauren wanted to honor the start of Summer (as seen on our previous post, Ava’s 2nd Birthday Party) and planned a theme that included many of the things that Ava loved at the time. She encouraged all of Ava’s friends to come wearing a swimsuit and set up a play pool and water slide for their enjoyment and a bounce house too! Other highlights include the lavender, white, and yellow color scheme, the mason jar sippy cup take home gifts, the beautiful custom ice cream cone cake, and we all screamed for Pinkberry as they scooped our ice cream and favorite toppings!

#3: This famous mouse! Two years ago, Lauren and Scott decided to take Ava to the “Happiest Place on Earth” as her big birthday present. However, they still wanted to be able to celebrate her with a few friends and family in the comfort of their own home. It was Ava’s chance to finally pick her own party theme, and it was no surprise to anybody when she chose to go with her two favorite things … Minnie Mouse and the color pink! As we mentioned, it was a small gathering but still really nice (as seen on our previous post, A 3rd Birthday Celebration) with lots of Minnie inspired treats, gift bags, and even the large bow that Ava wore on her head. When Ava finally got to meet the famous mouse herself, she ran right up to her with a huge hug and we all knew that this was the best birthday present ever!

#4: This fabulous theme! Last year, once again, Ava chose her birthday party theme, and she certainly did not disappoint (as seen on our previous post, Dream Big Princess 4th Birthday Party). So many girls choose to have princess parties, but how many choose a theme of empowerment like the “Dream Big Princess” campaign? Ava even helped to set up this gorgeous head table and waited patiently for all of her guests to arrive. What were the highlights? Gold lace crowns for each of the girls to wear, lunch provided by California Pizza Kitchen, a “Princess Ava” cake topper, and a very special guest (Ava’s favorite princess, Belle).

#5: This big girl! We can’t believe this amazing girl is turning five in less than a month. There is a lot to do for her upcoming LOL themed party but she is helping us every step of the way! Stay tuned to see how it turns out.

We plan to share our “Favorite Five” for the month of June on the 29th, and of course will be sharing what’s inspiring us for the month ahead on the first Friday of the month. See ya soon!

We’ve all seen in magazines the title, “Who Wore it Best?”! That’s all I could think of when two of my clients selected the same floor tile just weeks apart. Same tile (from Tile Clearance), done in their own style … and if you ask me, both look awesome! I honestly don’t think one “did it best” because they both ended up looking great! Let me know what you think.

Modern Farmhouse Powder Bathroom

We really wanted to let the flooring be the main focal point in this powder bathroom but continued the farmhouse feel from the rest of the house with this rustic cabinet, vessel sink by Kohler and shower and sink fixtures by Newport Brass in matte black (purchased from BJ Discount), custom mirror and glass enclosure to fit the space, and this awesome double light sconce from Rejuvenation. The warm paint tone on the walls offset the crisp white over-sized subway tiles and gave the room a cozy feel. I love how they were able to do a walk-in shower in this bathroom since it is so small. We even used an integrated linear drain so as not to take away at all from the tile.

Vintage Inspired Powder Bathroom

For this Vintage Inspired powder bathroom, we used the flooring tile as the focal point again but created a different look with black walls, gold accents, a white pedestal sink, and this awesome vintage metal cabinet that my client found all on her own. For the shower, we used a textured over-sized white subway tile for a vintage twist and a fun hexagon to match on the shower floor.

I am equally obsessed these days with gold and matte black plumbing fixtures and love that I was able to see how this awesome tile looked with both. As a rule of thumb, I generally don’t like to use the same statement piece twice, but in this case I am so glad both my clients are happy, love their powder bathrooms, and I got to see two gorgeous rooms transform.

We always look forward to May … May brings the NBA playoffs (Although our team is not doing so hot!), the Kentucky Derby with its amazing hats, the celebration of our mothers (made even more exciting this year by the fact that Tami just became a mom), and the promise of Summer. In addition, we expect to see gorgeous flowers blooming all around us this month. What’s that famous expression? “April showers, brings May flowers”. One thing we both love to do is to re-arrange simple flowers in different ways creating beautiful flower arrangements to display all over our homes. This past weekend, we did just that! Take a look!

T Side: I was lucky this Mother’s Day to not only get gorgeous florals from my hubby but from a few others as well. I knew when arranging all of these into separate vases that I wanted to use the base Phil came up with (soft blush and white tones) as my starting point and that I wanted to have several vessels spread out throughout my home with the same cohesive look. I pulled out a bunch of my favorite bud vases and created small arrangements to match the big one I made for my kitchen buffet. Each one housed just a few hot pink flowers in contrast to the otherwise soft look. A few days later, these flower arrangements are still going strong adding so much life into my space … What a great reminder of that special 1st Mother’s Day I celebrated this past weekend! Check out my photos with a special sneak peek at Joie’s nursery (Full post coming soon!).

L Side: I decided to make some special arrangements for some of the mothers in my life. I wasn’t too disappointed when I had a few extra blooms left at home and decided to make a pretty arrangement for myself to enjoy in my kitchen this week. Our grandfather was sweet and gave each of his granddaughters and daughters a bouquet of flowers to take home on Mother’s Day. I re-arranged those as well, mixed in a few of my other blooms, and came up with these gorgeous arrangements to dress up my space. Three days later they still look perfect and they truly cheer up my home.

We can pretty much guarantee that adding some fresh flowers into your home will make you feel alive this Spring. Go out and grab a few bundles and create something new. See what you can come up with! Have fun!
