As Lauren mentioned, last weekend was the beautiful baby shower she planned for me, but we were also celebrating another very special Mom-to-Be. I am beyond lucky to be going through this pregnancy process for the first time with my friend Steph and wanted to show my appreciation by helping out in any way I could. Two long time friends (Shireen and Lesley) and I each took on separate projects with a specific theme and color scheme in mind, and I have to say I am really proud of how it all came out and especially how it all went together so nicely. Not to mention, Steph loves attending high tea and has very fond memories of her mom taking her throughout her childhood which she knows she will pass on to her own daughter.

Upon each guest’s arrival, they dropped off their gifts under this handmade “It’s a Girl” bunting. I love to wrap my party gifts to go along with the theme or color scheme as much as possible. As I had a few flower and ribbon scraps left over, I was able to include those in Steph’s wrapped gift as well.

Snacks and drinks were provided by our party Hostess with the Mostess, Shireen, for all of the women to enjoy as they caught up with each other.

Our host’s dining area was the perfect place to set up our official high tea complete with lots of flowers and candlelight, gold chiavari chairs, and loads of pink details.

Shireen created different types of tea sandwiches for all of the ladies to enjoy along with salads and flavored tea (or champagne … take your pick!).

Our guest of honor got a special “Baby Girl” bunting at her seat and mug that said “Mommy”.

These perfect pink mugs (made by Lesley) were the exact right way for all guests to find their seat at the table and also a really nice personalized take home gift.

I included a little burlap sachet to each place setting that I made with a flower detail, a bit of pink tassel, and a personalized tag. Each one was filled with bags of green tea and a few sugar cubes.

Beautiful flower arrangements and a donut tower decorated Lesley’s adorable candy table. We filled our collection of glass apothecary jars with all pink candy … So cute!

This mason jar was decorated to hold props for photos in our fun candy room.

As you all know, I love to craft when I can! I had so much fun making these pink and gold glitter props for this special event! I love the mix of baby symbols (a bottle, bib, and pacifier) along with a tea cup to go with our theme and some cute little sayings in fancy fonts.

In addition to candy and donuts, dessert included these adorable fruit cups topped with whipped cream. Don’t you just love the pretty party plates and gold utensils Shireen found!?

As I mentioned, all of the details from the party came together so perfectly. I would work with this team again any day as each of these girls was dedicated to making it beautiful for their best friend and worked so hard to do so. Hooray for Shireen and Lesley!

I couldn’t be happier for these two to become parents so soon and to be going through all of this together! Our little girls will be born less than a month apart and are sure to be forever friends. I can’t wait to take them on walks together with my friend Steph, and I know I will have someone to continue to lean on when I have questions or concerns who is going through the same things at the same time. Congrats to Steph and Craig!

It’s the end of the month, and we are extremely grateful for all of the design challenges and experiences that have come our way. Today, we continue to show you some of our favorites … 5 things that truly made us happy in the great big world of design this month. This has proven to be a great way for us to share sneak peeks into projects that are in the works (but not quite ready to show in their entirety), flashbacks of projects from the past, and highlight an interior or event vendor that deserves recognition. Enjoy!

#1: This fabulous female! At the beginning of the month, I hosted along with some of my mommy friends a little “Party Book” fundraiser for Ava’s school and we hired my old friend Mary from M and M Pilates to lead us in some mommy and me fun. She was absolutely awesome and made the whole experience so easy. Can’t wait to do it all again! Plus I love supporting other female small business owners. (Written by: Lauren)

#2: This project moving forward! When I went to my new house yesterday to check the progress, I was so excited to see the beautiful kitchen my dad built being installed. That brings us one step closer to the finished product, and things are really starting to come together. You know I will keep you updated … I can hardly keep each small step towards our move-in to myself! (Written by: Lauren)

#3: This vendor! We met this vendor when we were planning our West Elm Pop Registry Event last Summer. I couldn’t wait to use them again for something special and knew that Tami’s baby shower was just the right thing. Any Occasion Balloons made this incredible balloon arch and even added in rose gold balloons to fit my theme and had the perfect flamingos for the front courtyard too. (Written by: Lauren)

#4: This vendor (double feature)! I couldn’t just pick one when there were two amazing vendors I worked with in planning Tami’s “Let’s Flamingle” baby shower last weekend. The Bagel Broker took all of the hard work out of the menu for Tami’s party. Their platters were delicious and just as beautifully displayed, and the owner Jason is such a nice guy! (Written by: Lauren)

#5: These new additions! You may remember these bassinets from Lauren’s house after her twins were born (seen here). Our very talented father made them himself. When I began planning for the arrival of my own baby girl, I decided why not include both of these beautiful pieces of furniture into my home. After all, I live in a townhouse and it will be super convenient to not have to drag one up and down the stairs constantly. Now, with having such a cozy set up ready to go and the nursery practically finished too (Thanks Mom and Lauren for coming over on Monday to help!), I can say alright, already … Let’s do this! I am so ready to meet her! (Written by: Tami)

We plan to share our “Favorite Five” for the month of March on the 30th, and of course will be sharing what’s inspiring us for the month ahead on the first Friday of the month. See ya soon!

When Tami found out she was having a girl, I immediately knew I wanted a flamingo theme for her baby shower. Tami has always liked flamingos and although we tend to go with a more subtle look when we design spaces in our homes, I knew I could get away with and knew I needed to go a little more bold with the party theme. I opted to go with a more tropical overall look and added in greenery and lots of pineapples. As you can imagine, keeping a secret from Tami is probably the hardest thing for me to do. I have been planning her baby shower for a while now and couldn’t wait to show her all of the details and to reveal the theme.

I wanted to make the courtyard special to welcome guests upon their arrival and went a bit crazy with flamingos to reveal the theme.

I ordered these fun balloon bouquets from our favorite balloon vendor, Any Occasion Balloons in West LA, complete with large mylar flamingos and the most fun one filled with gold confetti. I also added in a few garden flamingos for a whimsical touch.

I handmade this sign with a cute saying to go with … “Let’s Flamingle!”

It made for a great spot to get some photos of our Mom-to-Be too. Doesn’t she look adorable in her party dress?

I couldn’t have planned this party without these amazing girls. Maya and Ashlee helped me with every detail and Ava helped in her own way too.

Each of us took on our own creative project. I made the flower arrangements and our sister Maya created these amazing signs.

We ordered these awesome bagel trays with all of the fixin’s and some gorgeous fruit platters from The Bagel Broker. They were delicious …

… and added in a few homemade salads along with our grandma’s famous chile egg puff.

We set up this cute drink station in the kitchen with a little of something for everyone (coffee, pink lemonade, and of course rose).

We infused our water with pineapple to fit the theme, and it was delicious too!

I’m pretty sure that the dessert table was one of my favorite details from the party. Not only were the treats so delicious (Thanks to Ashlee!), but each fun detail that we included was so over the top.

This banana trifle that Ashlee made is quite possibly the most amazing thing I’ve ever had (I may have had two helpings, wink!), and these fun forks added in just the right amount of black and white.

We transformed these plain glazed donuts into pineapples with green glitter toppers we ordered on Etsy and got some powdered sugar donut holes to go with.

I can’t decide what the best part of this cake that Ashlee made is … The delicious pink sprinkle inside, the fabulous candy topping, or the watercolor flamingo?

We set the table with pink plates, baby pineapples, a swiss dot runner, and these awesome flower arrangements we made in real pineapple shells.

We made this Mom-to-Be sign for a special place for Tami to sit and added a little pink bow to her baby pineapple for another special touch.

We set up a small reception table to house the sign in details we planned, all the elements we needed for a fun game sing off, and Tami’s gifts.

Any Occasion Balloons also made this awesome balloon arch in every shade of pink and blush and we added fun tropical leaves for a special touch.

Ashlee’s gift to Tami included this incredible flamingo themed diaper cake …

… and a fun sign to put up in the nursery customized for “Baby Daks”. Each guest left their thumbprint to show how much they care.

Our finishing touches were these little party favors, a few prizes to go with the theme, and a cute note for Tami to read while she opened each gift about which traits our party guests want the baby to get from each of her parents. Not surprising at all that Tami’s hair and Phil’s height were popular votes!

I am so glad that Tami really loved every detail and was so happy to celebrate with all of her closest friends and family. A huge shout out to the “Aunt Squad” (Maya, Rebecca, and Ashlee) and to my mom for making this party amazing. Now that the big event is over, and we have revealed the theme, I can’t wait to meet my little niece and to find out her name. “Baby Daks” … Coming soon!

Ready or not … This baby is coming REALLY soon! I know that Lauren has been busy working away on all of the details for my baby shower this coming weekend, and I truly cannot wait to see what she has come up with (I have been kept completely in the dark). The one thing I did have a bit of a say in was what I registered for. Putting together a very special nursery for my little girl has been in the forefront of my mind, so I pulled actual items from my own personal registry to include in this post today. When paired with five fun event items I found, I think you will all get an idea for how to plan a baby shower that fits the look of your nursery space. Lauren wants to make perfectly clear that these items are in no way a “what to expect” for the baby shower we will share next week … It is still all a secret until I get there! If you do want to purchase any of these items, I have included a link for your convenience. Enjoy!

Things are really starting to take shape at our Modern With Antiques home. The drywall is up, the guest bathroom has been fully tiled, and we are almost ready to start the fun finishes we have been planning for so long. There are still a few rooms we haven’t shared here in our Under Construction series, and I realized I better get them done quickly before we get to show you those awesome Before and After shots. Today, I am sharing the plans for the media room. We just finished the design for this space … Here’s a sneak peek.

In Process

All of the wiring is in for the large TV going on this wall. We are designing a media cabinet to go below and all of the proper equipment to go with it.

This sliding glass door will eventually be covered up with some window coverings to give enough darkness to watch a movie even during the day.

There is not tons of space in this room for traditional movie viewing seats, so we ordered an ultra comfy recliner sofa in an awesome metallic leather to complete the space.

Media Room Inspiration

In keeping with the modern yet elegant look of the rest of the house, we decided to keep this room pretty neutral in color but to add in fun details (such as an animal print pillow, a cozy rug, some fun wall upholstery, and a bit of metallic). This will give it that media room feeling and give the client a place they can enjoy at the end of each day.

Please follow along as we continue to work on this dream project! For more information on our design services email us at info@sbsdesignla.com.
